But there were other bands as well that had sth new to offer (Candlemass, Cathedral, Warning, Sleep, Solitude Aeturnus).

Like Thorns s/t is very heavy even though it's "just" an industrial-BM combo or on the opposite end there is "Black One" by Sunn O))) (ultra slow, drop A tuning, tortured vocals) - the result is quite the "same". (+ I'd take any funeral doom album over Dopethrone for heaviness)
