06.26.13 | lol cinn |
manosg
06.26.13 | You covered well the technical elements that make an album heavy. I would add that a truly heavy album has soul, passion and speaks the truth. |
Madbutcher3
06.26.13 | 1, 2, 7, and 8 pretty much summarise it for me. I personally consider Musta Seremonia, Slaughter In
The Vatican, None So Vile, Cause Of Death and Pierced From Within the heaviest albums I've heard, just
to clarify. |
NeroCorleone80
06.26.13 | Its certainly not loudness, which is what a lot of people assume makes something heavy |
Madbutcher3
06.26.13 | Actually, I'd say From The Shadows is probably the heaviest album I've heard overall. |
JS19
06.26.13 | Most of these are not what i'd call heavy at all |
baldymort
06.26.13 | I find ocean machine to be an insanely heavy album just due to how immense and immersive it is. |
Ricochet
06.26.13 | space+aggression=heavy

minty901
06.26.13 | feature |

06.26.13 | you didnt include any black sabbath album |
SIMBOLIC
06.26.13 | hard to describe
but id say Close To A World Below is one of the heaviest albums I've ever heard, but not one of the most brutal, whereas None So Vile is vice versa |
BigPleb
06.26.13 | Vote goes to Strapping Young Lad - City.
That album only exists to be balls to the wall heavy. |
ViperAces

rockandmetaljunkie
06.26.13 | It should be consisted of heavy downtuned riffs that have potential and personality. |
rockandmetaljunkie
06.26.13 | The coordination of drums and bass is also an important aspect. |
Keyblade
06.26.13 | doom ripping off sabbath what |
Madbutcher3
06.26.13 | because dISEMBOWELMENT totally sounds exactly like Master Of Reality
yeah no |
rockandmetaljunkie
06.26.13 | "doom ripping off sabbath what"
That's true, there were many bands that tried too hard to sound like Sabbath and unintentionally sounded like they were just ripping them off. But there were other bands as well that had sth new to offer (Candlemass, Cathedral, Warning, Sleep, Solitude Aeturnus). |
Relinquished
06.26.13 | Chaosphere |
sonictheplumber
06.26.13 | i'd say your typical stoner rock bands are more guilty of ripping off sabbath than doom, doom uses sabbath as a foundation but there isnt really any plagiarism, i mean you can hear obvious sabbath influence in vitus and cathedral and shit but its not ripping off
however most modern stoner bands are fuckin always ripping off sabbath or kyuss or something |
TheNotrap
06.26.13 | The combination of music and thematic within a specific timeline.
The self-titled Black Sabbath track is a fine example. |
sonictheplumber
06.26.13 | i mean hell all metal owes something to sabbath, priest, maiden or motorhead |
rockandmetaljunkie
06.26.13 | "however most modern stoner bands are fuckin always ripping off sabbath or kyuss or something"
agreed hard |

GuanoBumbershoot
06.26.13 | Laughed hard at the whole "and perhaps you're a moron.." part. A good percentage of the people I know think this. Most of them call me an a elitist for suggesting otherwise too. My question is: since when in the world did everyone become a "pretentious elitist douchebag"? |
ShadowRemains
06.26.13 | lol 4 through 6 |
slipnslide
06.26.13 | lots of yelling and swearing makes an album toughm/ |
Dodecahedron
06.26.13 | Idk, there's crushing sonic heaviness, then there's emotional heaviness. Two very different things. |
alachlahol
06.26.13 | gotta hit the brown note thats what makes it heavy it makes you shit your pants cause your bowels cant take those low frequency waves |
SpiritCrusher2
06.26.13 | Pierced From Within so hard m/ |
SpiritCrusher2
06.26.13 | lol that sounds weird |
alachlahol
06.26.13 | heavy albums gotta move slow and crush you over and over. dm doesnt do that,, theres some heavy dm albums out there but they still get outdone by bands like corrupted, moss, acid king, etc |
wacknizzle
06.26.13 | Heliogabalus by Rorcal is the heaviest album I've ever heard, and I'm currently on a crushing sludge centered diet. Just louder, more pissed, more tense, more bleak and apocalyptic than anything I've ever heard. |
PunchforPunch
06.26.13 | Also Streetcleaner |
wacknizzle
06.26.13 | For it's day Streetcleaner would certainly take the cake, it's been surpassed by now imo. |
Rsetness9
06.27.13 | Well, I agree with 7. It kinda scares me. |

Funeralopolis
06.27.13 | agressiveness doesn't equal heavy, heavy equals heavy and dopethrone wins |
Pennywise_M
06.28.13 | Vildhjarta. |
Pennywise_M
06.28.13 | Also agree with MisterTornado. Dark ambient + Death Metal is some of the heavist stuff around. |
Wizard
07.02.13 | Ambient can be the heaviest music in the world to me on occasion. |
Pennywise_M

Egarran
05.02.22 | Damn this is a very angry list
Good to know that Pon mellowed out with age |
garas
05.02.22 | Riffs AND atmosphere. Let it be omnious, riffs either sharp or bottom heavy. Like Thorns s/t is very heavy even though it's "just" an industrial-BM combo or on the opposite end there is "Black One" by Sunn O))) (ultra slow, drop A tuning, tortured vocals) - the result is quite the "same".
(+ I'd take any funeral doom album over Dopethrone for heaviness) |
Pon
05.02.22 | "Damn this is a very angry list"
Lemme fetch something for you |
Egarran
05.02.22 | [Eager anticipation] |
deathofasalesman
