What Makes An Album Heavy

I so often see idiots proclaiming "X album" to be the "heaviest album of all rtime", despite there rbeing no way to properly ascertain what "heavy" even rmeans. My question is what actually rmakes an album heavy in your opinion, rand what is your pick for the heaviest album you can rthink of?
1Suffocation
Pierced From Within

Is it a cement thick lower end? Suffocation's 1995 effort epitomises bottom heavy
guitar tuning and sound engineering; definitely a contender for heaviest album of all
time in my opinion.
2Rippikoulu
Musta Seremonia

Is it raw-as-fuck production (also coupled with an earth shattering bottom end in
this case)?
3Defeated Sanity
Psalms of the Moribund

Complete insanity might be your poison? Defeated Sanity's affinity for free-jazz and
slams definitely puts them up there with the most brutal bands around today.
4Abominable Putridity
In The End of Human Existence

Bands like Abominable Putridity took Suffocation's signature breakdown style and
effectively wrote entire albums consisting of them. Maybe you consider the slow,
groovy "slams" to be the epitome of "heaviness".
5Infant Annihilator
The Palpable Leprosy of Pollution

Perhaps you're a moron and think mixing your electric drumkit way too fucking high
is the "most br00thul thing evar"
6Brain Drill
Apocalyptic Feasting

While they can't write songs for shit, Brain Drill's cram-as-many-wanks-as-possible-
into-any-given-timeframe style has a couple people proclaiming them as the most
undeniably brutal thing on the planet.
7Electric Wizard
Dopethrone

Maybe doom is more your style? Few bands can claim to have written a "heavier"
album than Dopethrone, characterised by insanely thick bass and massive, lingering
riffs.
8Ulcerate
Everything is Fire

While it doesn't have the thickest sound, the dense atmosphere of Ulcerate's 2009
effort could put it close to top of some people's lists of heavy albums.
9Funebrarum
The Sleep of Morbid Dreams

Maybe the evil, cavernous sound of OSDM (in this case, recreated by a brilliant
modern band) is more to your liking?
10Morbid Saint
Spectrum of Death

When all else fails, senseless aggression is often a deciding factor in determining
how "heavy" an album truly is.
