Under Appreciated Genres Pt.3

Since the last one got some thumbs up i might as well do another one. Here are some more cool genres that sputnik sleeps on because everyone is too busy with stone sowa.
1Toumani Diabate
The Mande Variations

African Wizard String Music. These guys are the dark elves of their craft. Plucking
away heavenly notes to feed their villages. If you dont like this stuff you're prob a
racist.
2Ali Farka Toure
Savane
3Tinariwen
Amassakoul
4Group Inerane
Guitars from Agadez (Music of Niger)
5Taj Mahal Travellers
August 1974

Free Improvisation. An improvised abstract avant mix of free jazz, indeterminacy
(basically weird classical ish), and other cool things. Check it.
6Supersilent
6
7Derek Bailey
Standards
8The Necks
Drive By
9Matt Elliott
Failing Songs

Dark Cabaret. You know that music that play at weird circuses.
10Reverend Glasseye
Black River Falls
11The Dead Brothers
Wunderkammer
12Rasputina
Frustration Plantation
13The Bulgarian Voices Angelite
Fly, Fly My Sadness

Throat Singing. Sounds like a highly meditative frog army. Im going to keep
whoring this album out in particular until it has 100 ratings.
14Oidupaa Vladimir Oiun
Divine Music from a Jail
15David Hykes & The Harmonic Choir
Hearing Solar Winds
16John Fahey
The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death

American Primitivism. Some of the best guitar players in the world concoct a
progressive mix of folk, blues, and country with fingerpicking goodness.
17Robbie Basho
Venus in Cancer
18 Sandy Bull
Fantasias For Guitar & Banjo
19Leo Kottke
6 and 12 String Guitar
20Einsturzende Neubauten
Haus Der Lüge

Industrial. Everyone knows what industrial is. Its EVEN got its own genre tag here.
Yet nobody seems to listen to it outside of NIN. Coil not having an album with over
100 ratings is SMH +100. Industrial is hit or miss for me, but when it hits its some
of the coolest music Ill ever hear.
21SPK
Leichenschrei
22Zoviet France
Just an Illusion
23God
Possession
24Cabaret Voltaire
Red Mecca
25Throbbing Gristle
The Second Annual Report
26John Zorn
The Circle Maker

Klezmer. Jewish music. Put away your anti-semitism and eat some matzo cuz this
stuff is hot.
27Bar Kokhba
Lucifer: Book of Angels Volume 10
28Masada
Alef
29The Cracow Klezmer Band
De Profundis
30Scott Joplin
The Entertainer (Fine Tune Gold Collection)

This is sputnik history folks. This may be the first time RAGTIME has ever been put
on a list. Yes RAGTIME. If you wanna be Nucky Thompson this is what you need.
Everyone knows The Entertainer so throw it on and hoe down.
31Fats Waller
Aint Misbehavin
32Blind Blake
Ragtime Guitar's Foremost Fingerpicker
33Art Tatum
Piano Starts Here

Borderline ragtime but this guy just rules so much his musicianship makes btbam
look like sum 41.
34Karlheinz Stockhausen
Gesang der Junglinge

Musique Concrete. Idk how to really describe this stuff. Its weird. Kinda music that
doesnt use instruments as much as manipulates environmental sounds or
something.
35Ground Zero
Revolutionary Pekinese Opera, Ver. 1.28
36Jason Lescalleet
Songs About Nothing
37Black Tape for a Blue Girl
Remnants of a Deeper Purity

Darkwave. If you havent heard Dead Can Dance yet go do that. They need more
love than they get here. But darkwave is some pretty stuff. Atmospheric, Gothy,
Post-Punky, Synth Poppy. Its something the whole fam could love.
38Diary of Dreams
One of 18 Angels
39Elend
Winds Devouring Men
40Lycia
Cold
41Charley Patton
Primeval Blues, Rags, And Gospel Songs

Blues/Delta Blues. Robert Johnson gets some love here, but outside of him no other
OG really does. This is the foundation for which all rock music is built on. Some of
the rawest, purest, most heartfelt music that has ever existed. Put down your
Clapton records for a sec and see where it all started.
42Mississippi John Hurt
Avalon Blues
43Leadbelly
The Best of Leadbelly
44Blind Willie Johnson
The Complete Blind Willie Johnson
45Howlin Wolf
Moanin' in the Moonlight
46Jakob Ullmann
A Catalogue of Sounds 1995-1997

Lowercase. More weird stuff. Uses silence and field recordings as key components
or something. It can be interesting.
47Antoine Beuger
A Young Person's Guide to Antoine Beuger
48Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto
Vrioon
49Taku Sugimoto
Opposite

Onkyo. Similar to lowercase cept its japanese.
50Toshimaru Nakamura
No Input Mixing Board
51Dick Dale
King Of The Surf Guitar

Surf Rock. The stuff Quentin Tarantino puts in all his movies. Its awesome and
jams and is even better summer music than pop punk.
52The Ventures
The Ventures In Space
53Link Wray
Link Wray
54Man or Astro-Man?
Destroy All Astro-Men!!
55The Shadows
Surfing With The Shadows
56The Chantays
Pipeline

Theres so many great surf rock singles from the 60s so get a compilation or
something.
57Christian Death
Catastrophe Ballet

Death Rock. Follow happy music with darker music. Death Rock incorporates horror
and spooky elements in post-punk/goth. Some bands threw some surf rock in the
mix too.
5845 Grave
Autopsy
59Samhain
November-Coming-Fire
60Alien Sex Fiend
Acid Bath

processed through a computer I guess.
65Sunshine Has Blown
Sunshine Has Blown
66MIMEO
Wirugy
67Cheveu
1000

Synth Punk. Has the energy of punk but replaces the guitars with synths, and its
cool. More lo-fi and dissonant than dance-punk, this genre continues the
experimental nature of no wave. Start with the band Suicide first, especially the
song Johnny Teardrop because its pretty.
68Lost Sounds
Lost Sounds
69Nice Face
Immer Etwas
70The Units
Digital Stimulation
71Human Eye
Human Eye

meditation center next week.

In Praise Of Dreams
76Kitaro
Silk Road
77Constance Demby
Novus Magnificat: Through The Stargate

happy.

Third Stream. An improvisational mix of jazz and classical.
94Bill Evans
Symbiosis
95Julius Eastman
Unjust Malaise

Im out of shit so I guess Ill just end with Modern Classical. A genre that is so great
yet most of the biggest composers can barely get 5 ratings. Arvo Part, Philip Glass,
Steve Reich, Stravinsky, Gorecki, and such get some love but still not enough.
After them it drops off a cliff.
96Morton Feldman
String Quartet No. 2
97Arnold Schoenberg
