04.06.13 | this needs Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime stat. And throw in Watchtower's Control & Resistance. Essential prog-metal. |
mandan
04.06.13 | BTW I should dig some of the stuff on this list. |
eleventhsun
04.06.13 | Operation Mindcrime (2) - Definitely deserves the praise it gets, an incredibly well written record. |

Friday13th
04.06.13 | Operation Mindcrime (3)
Psychotic Waltz and Crimson Glory are good early bands too |

04.06.13 | Am I the only person who thinks Colors is overrated?
Check out Pain of Salvation. Not exactly as metal as the other bands but it's still great prog |
JaySpiral
04.06.13 | Having a prog metal list without Tool on it is just a crime. I suggest Tool and Pain of Salvation. |

04.06.13 | "Am I the only person who thinks Colors is overrated?"
As long as I'm still breathing......no |

04.06.13 | There's a new band that's just formed with Virgil Donati on drums and Derek Sherinian on keys that sound very much like DT, if anyone's interested. I forget their name but yeah, they sounded alright. |
Keyblade
04.06.13 | "Having a prog metal list without Tool on it is just a crime."

i've been jamming the shit out of 18 recently |

04.06.13 | Oh yeah, no Symphony X. That's inexcusable. |
Keyblade
04.06.13 | this is actually a really dece list apart from 1 or 2 albums |

04.06.13 | "Having a prog metal list without Tool on it is just a crime."
^No it isn't. |
mandan
04.06.13 | "Oh yeah, no Symphony X. That's inexcusable."
^Symphony X should definitely be on here. |
JaySpiral
04.06.13 | Wow I'm an idiot. I somehow didn't see Aenima the first time, I apologize.
@Keyblade how are they not progressive metal? |
Keyblade
04.06.13 | well first of all you have to be metal to be prog metal and tool are barely metal if i'm being generous. also they barely incorporate any elements of prog rock, jazz, blues etc to be called prog at all. |
JaySpiral
04.06.13 | They incorporate plenty of prog rock elements. Just because they don't have a normal sound of prog doesn't mean they aren't prog. And Tool is definitely metal, I don't know how you could say they're not metal. |
Keyblade
04.06.13 | ok what elements of prog do they incorporate apart from moderately long songs |
JaySpiral
04.06.13 | More complex song structures, lots of weird background noises, different time signatures, long drawn out parts, not necessarily riff-based, complex drumming. |
JaySpiral
04.06.13 | And although it doesn't make them prog, they have cited many classic prog rock bands as influences on them. |

05.28.15 | I've recently become a huge fan of maudlin of the Well. A fantastic band to check out with the right mindset, although a bit tough to get into. |
