03.06.13 | because movies are never as good as the books they cover |

03.06.13 | ^
Plus, a lot of teachers are just old hags and are too trapped in their own ways to try anything new and thus are usually terrible teachers, unless by some chance all of their students are just sossososososoos in love with the classics. Reminds me of my fucking english teacher. christ. |
lyzakthellama
03.06.13 | I agree however literature should be in depthly covered in school still |
lyzakthellama
03.06.13 | And if this is about Light in August, I actually like this book and am glad we are reading it |
Trebor.
03.06.13 | Cuz old people think books > other media |
Hyperion1001
03.06.13 | "We dig deep to find symbolism, motifs, and to further understand motives of characters."
now i understand why youre asking this question |
KeithStone582
03.06.13 | The main reason is because watching a movie or listening to music isn't really a skill. You can gain an appreciation for the medium, but that's about it. Reading literature allows for you to increase your perception of the English language. I think that some writers of music and film are just as good as any author, but I still recognize why English teachers refer to novels. |
Trebor.
03.06.13 | Yeah, cuz of people like you are children won't even no how to read or right |
KeithStone582
03.06.13 | Misspells know.... |
Trebor.
03.06.13 | Damn, my english teacher showed us movies instead you know damn
Wait hold the fuck up, why the fuck would they not read books in english class, it's not music or film class shit |
KeithStone582
03.06.13 | Film class was the shit. |
americanohno
03.06.13 | oh jesus christ you stupid fucking kids are gonna read "bartleby, the scrivener" and I don't want no goddamn lip. |
eternium
03.06.13 | Are you really criticizing books? Movies can't be made without being written down first and most music is basically a mix of art and poetry.
Does your school not have music, art, and film classes? |
sideburndude
03.06.13 | Because music is not regarded as a potential art that has meaning to most teachers |
lyon1535
03.06.13 | I think that's why they have music classes and film classes, as well as English classes. At least that's how they do it here. |
KeithStone582
03.06.13 | It's how they do it every where. |
ohfoxxxycole
03.06.13 | my english teachers in high school didnt know who bukowski or burroughs were smh |
apert
03.06.13 | Yeah, cuz of people like you are children won't even no how to read or right
clearly you don't know know how to WRITE |
apert
03.06.13 | did you guys actually have film class? We'd never get that at my school, only got proper old fashioned core subjects, even classes like business studies were looked down upon as a waste of time |
YetAnotherBrick
03.06.13 | i agree that schools should definitely acknowledge movies and music more often, but at the same time, i wish my fellow students would stop being ignorant tardfucks and start appreciating the classics. i understand if someone doesn't think that Jane Eyre is the liveliest, most bang-pow book ever written, but how can you not appreciate the nuance and craft of the writing? there's a fucking reason it was written in the 1800s and we're still reading it in school. yknow? |
ohfoxxxycole
03.06.13 | agreed ^ |
KeithStone582
03.06.13 | @apert
Yeah, my school had a film 1 and 2 class. It was pretty sweet. |
apert
03.06.13 | it pisses me off when so many people think reading is boring. a good book imo can almost never be matched by a good film and so many people miss out because it actually involves engaging your brain for a bit |
MMX
03.06.13 | I agree that a good book can near untouchable when compared to other media, but It is very rare I have
the time to sit down and read for fun |
KotoFtw
03.06.13 | lol at people thinking Trebor can't spell. |
slimdaddy
03.06.13 | @lyzak, haha no this has nothing to do with Light In August. Thats the best book we have read in a while, but I was just curious why we don't explore different varieties of media. |
neurisis17
03.06.13 | Books rule... Music Rules... Movies Rule... some books suck... some music sucks... some movies suck... take the good with the bad, and personally, all the books I've read for school have been really good. (except Lord of the Flies) |
zakalwe
03.06.13 | Books fire the imagination like nothing else and are immersive as fuck. |
lyzakthellama
