03.06.13 | yee they rule |

03.06.13 | i definitely prefer their more guitar-driven stuff like 77 so if there's anything like that on here wanna let me know?:D |
foxblood
03.06.13 | try 69 demi it is incredible, very guitar driven |
YankeeDudel
03.06.13 | ace list fox. bookmarked this bad boy |

this needs to be featured btw nobody cares about necroticas 10 fav bands |
Chortles
03.06.13 | sput doesnt post punk or new wave hard enough |
YankeeDudel
03.06.13 | I mean I understand why though. Alot of new wave is pretty cheesy and outdated sounding, but most of these are great regardless. Kiddies just need to learn to 80s even if they were born in 96.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0WNbm1jz6A
^New Wave classic |
foxblood
03.06.13 | ^ good call.
i really dig stuff most people consider cheesey. the more ridiculous the better imo. this list is more accessible stuff though, sput isn't ready for my 150% over the top 80's madness new wave |
foxblood
03.06.13 | sorta surprised that even tubeway army is unknown around here |
YankeeDudel
03.06.13 | Haaaa yea def not.
It mostly just comes down this stuff its old. Sputnik has alot of the popular classics decently covered (by covered I mean more than 20 ratings if you're lucky lol), but pretty much anything that is old and 2nd tier popularity wise or lower you're lucky if it has 3 ratings. Just the way it is meng. |
foxblood
03.06.13 | yeah yankee that's def just how it is, gotten used to it. older/less popular genres have never been the focus of sput, especially non-metal genres. like i could also make a list of 100 twee albums but i think i'm the only person on this website that's into twee |
YankeeDudel
03.06.13 | Yea its weird too cuz I signed up to sput because it was big on metal. Lately though I havent even been listening to much metal at all, and notice how overlooked so many other genres are here. |
foxblood
03.06.13 | me too sorta, that's why i make lists like this. somewhat vain attempts to spread stuff i enjoy. still listen to just as much m/ though |
YankeeDudel
03.06.13 | Ill say it again but this is why RYM is so useful to me for older ish. Alot of these have hundreds or thousands of ratings there. |
foxblood
03.06.13 | yeah i know i found lots of this through rym, great place to discover stuff. choose genre, rape charts |
wacknizzle
03.06.13 | Awesome list. Haven't delved deep into new wave other than Tears For Fears and Talking Heads but I'm definitely gonna check out some of the albums on this list. |
foxblood
03.06.13 | listen to 40 wack, new order are a must |
wacknizzle
03.06.13 | Lol fox. That was the first album I went and started listening to on spotify just before you said that hahahaha. They're one of the bands I've heard of on this list but still funny coincidence. |
foxblood
03.06.13 | lol i could subconsciously feel the new order being jammed and instinctually rec'd it |
Tyler.

Eloriaz
03.06.13 | foxblood that is an awesome list! Thank you so much.
Bookmarked of course.
Very very nice to see # 44 in here :)
I'm really into synthpop right now. Aside from OMD and New Order, what would you first suggest me on
this list? Being thinking about Soft Cell in particular.
Cheers! (I know about 10% of this list. Got work to do!!) |
foxblood
03.06.13 | thanks guys:]
eloriaz, yeah soft cell is great, definitely give Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret a listen. if you haven't heard 57 i recommend you to start with that one. also 88, 55, and 1 are very synth-heavy |
Trebor.
03.06.13 | Why would people not think B-52s is amazing |
ButteryBiscuitBass
03.06.13 | List is missing Discipline, Beat & Three of a perfect pair. Otherwise awesome. |

03.06.13 | SOMETHING HAPPENS AND I'M HEAD OVER HEELS

Jash
03.06.13 | Really really good list man, might have to jam some of these today |
ViperAces
03.06.13 | taaaaakeeeeeee oooooonnnnnn meeeeeeeeeeee |

foxblood
03.07.13 | ah dude you like big country and boomtown rats? awesomeee |
foxblood
03.07.13 | those guitars in In a Big Country get me every time |
omnipanzer
03.07.13 | I'm older so it's no surprise I know everyone (or almost everyone) on this list. Some I love and some I could cart out to the corner. ;-) |
deftonesrock420
03.07.13 | a ha suck dick |
foxblood
03.07.13 | ah sadly i wasn't alive in the 80's so i can only experience it vicariously through music and other such things |
omnipanzer
03.07.13 | lol, I could literally do a list about this list.
1. Take on Me is still a great song and the video was mesmerizing when i was a kid. There is a reason it still shows up on best video lists. I never really got into anything else they did though.
2. I cannot stand ABC
3. this is a great album my dad had, I haven't heard it in years and it might be time to revisit it.
4. This one I'm not familiar with but I never really got into 80's Darkwave or Gothic Rock
etc. |
omnipanzer
03.07.13 | I'm surprised madness didn't make it on the list. Every time I hear Our House I think of their appearance on The Young Ones.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDt4sPkxZ2U |
foxblood
03.07.13 | damn dude awesome haha. did he have 3 on vinyl? that has to be pretty hard to come by, at least these days. |
foxblood
03.07.13 | don't think i've heard madness actually |
omnipanzer
03.07.13 | No he had it on Reel to Reel. He worked for a Radio station for a while and they would get together with a dozen or so people and have "Dubbing" parties. They would swap music basically... because intrawebz is the death of the music industry. |
omnipanzer
03.07.13 | XTC has so many great songs, a lot of clunkers to though imo. |
foxblood
03.07.13 | that's so cool haha. i'd imagine ann steel would be quite an experience back then, it sounds so fresh and unusual even now. and dude i appreciate your take on these since i rarely run into people that know a lot of these |
foxblood
03.07.13 | i haven't heard most of XTC's discog, they have a lot of stuff |
omnipanzer
03.07.13 | Seriously it's nothing big I was just around when it was popular. New wave had it's own block on the MTV and MTV was one of 13 and then later 26 channels so you know. |
omnipanzer
03.07.13 | Here:
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=445848&listid=76902
you might find this amusing. |
foxblood
03.07.13 | yeah i've heard that mtv was pretty crucial in popularizing new wave. cool will check |
omnipanzer
03.07.13 | I also grew up with a great alt station here in Columbus which I've only in the last two years or so realized wasn't common for everyone else. |
foxblood
03.07.13 | yeah true, i grew up with basically never listening to any station on purpose |
omnipanzer
03.07.13 | That's how I am now as there are more and better avenues for new music but back when it was radio or nothing it was the shit. |
jmnewcomer18
03.08.13 | string beanus? |
