| List #100 - 22 Years In The Making
My Best of List that took 22 years to make. I'm 22 years old for
clarification, and since the apocalypse didn't happen, I thought I'd end the
year on a best of list. | 1 | | Radiohead OK Computer
While it may not be #1 anymore, it is truly the album that got me thinking that
there is something more to music than the radio. I've listened to this more times
than anything else on this list (save #2), and it is the standard on which I judge all
good albums by: stand-outs, track progression, theme, relevance, emotional
impact, message, and just putting on in the car to listen to. My favorite song ever,
Let Down, is on it too. | 2 | | Blink-182 Enema of the State
No it's not in the top 10 anymore. Probably mid teens, but this is the first album I
ever listened to backwards and forwards. I've listened to this album more than the
rest combined, and have listened to Adam's song more than my own voice. It's
childish, its repetitive, its power chords, its pop punk. It was the beginning. | 3 | | Have A Nice Life Deathconsciousness
The feeling of being alone, not in an empty room, but in a dense crowd. There are
words to describe an experience as deep and emotional as the sensation of
connecting to this album. I cannot find them. It was there for my lowest low, and
told me I could go lower. It was in the depths of my greatest depression that I
found the inspiration to move the Earth. | 4 | | Sigur Ros ( )
What is post-rock? Post-modernism? Post-emotion? I believe that being
speechless is the greatest way to respect an album without lyrics. No words are
necessary. | 5 | | Converge Jane Doe
These waves of you are unforgiving, pushing past me and spilling through the
banks. And I fall, faster than light and faster than time. That's how the memory
works, at least in the dark where I'm searching for meaning. When I'm just
searching for something. I want out. Out of every awkward day, out of every
tongue-tied loss. I want out. Out of the burdening night sweats, out of the rising
seas of blood. Lost in you like Saturday nights, searching the streets with bedroom
eyes. Just dying to be saved. Run on girl, run on. | 6 | | Circle Takes the Square As the Roots Undo
Each day we search for an answer, be it simple or eternal. For a screamo record, I
have never witnessed lyrics so dense and metaphoric. This album is the search for
salvation and self-awakening. The circle of this path, mimics the eye of a
hurricane. Perfectly imperfect, like a storm. Rejoice. | 7 | | John Frusciante Niadra Lades and Usually Just A T-Shirt
The importance of the album is more important than the longevity of the music.
The songs on this album have given me experience I will never forget... if only I
could remember them better. I often act as if I cannot understand the pains that
dwell beneath the surface. The feelings drugs and alcohol cloud in a murkiness
inside the mind. I do. Not anyone's in particular, but when a man screaming
gibberish through a microphone while strumming an acoustic guitar hits you like a
ton of bricks, one must ask: "Am I sane?" The answer may be different for
everyone, yet I no longer see a divide between the glee of laughter and the
sorrowing of crying. My smile is a rifle, won't you give it a try? | 8 | | Lynyrd Skynyrd (Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd)
There may be rock and roll classics on here, yet that means nothing. Yes, Free
Bird and Simple Man stick out, but so do Poison Whiskey and I Ain't the One. To
me, this is the music that brings me back home to Texas, fills my glass full of
Whiskey, cleans the gun I own, and lets me remember the girls I've dated with a
smile. Music evolves like the mind and the heart, but I always want to remember
where I came from. | 9 | | Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
This one has "Pitchfork" written all over it, but I don't care. I was always a snob
when it came to the tone of my music. Never a big acoustic fan, it was always the
some sounding music about the same topics. Boy was I wrong when I heard this.
The title track is the first chord progression I ever learned, King of Carrot Flowers
Pt 1 the second. Boy does it feel good to be indie. | 10 | | GZA/Genius Liquid Swords
This is with out a doubt the most definitive hip hop album ever written. It cuts
you, it fights you, but it bleeds with you. Each track is a story, each chorus is a
commentary. The beats are among the best, the sound is raw and real. GZA
points out that "No, it doesn't feel good to be a gangsta." | 11 | | Black Sabbath Master of Reality | 12 | | Brand New The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me | 13 | | Drudkh Autumn Aurora | 14 | | Nick Drake Pink Moon | 15 | | King Crimson Red | 16 | | Off Minor The Heat Death of the Universe | 17 | | Cynic Focus | 18 | | Ulver Bergtatt | 19 | | Dinosaur Jr. You're Living All Over Me | 20 | | maudlin of the Well Bath | 21 | | Wolves in the Throne Room Diadem of 12 Stars | 22 | | Disillusion Back to Times of Splendor | 23 | | Opeth My Arms, Your Hearse | 24 | | Eluvium Copia | 25 | | Pg. 99 Document #8 | |
