12.05.12 | Still find it unusually hard to describe what "true metal" actually means. As you can see, my vision of it seems to be a blend of heavy/traditional, doom, power and epic. Not sure if that's correct though :/ |
RuckingFetard
12.05.12 | what the fuck is this shit what does it mean |
RuckingFetard
12.05.12 | srry i'm a ruckingfetard sorry |
MaidenFan24
12.05.12 | What do YOU mean? :/ |

12.05.12 | "Still find it unusually hard to describe what "true metal" actually means. As you can see, my vision of it seems to be a blend of heavy/traditional, doom, power and epic. Not sure if that's correct though :/"
It's subjective. It's what you like the best and what you find you can't stand to live without. |
YUJOS
12.05.12 | I think the whole true metal thing started with the first Hammerfall album. Maybe it was meant to describe power metal bands that were leaning more to the heavy metal side with their music (ala accept, maiden etc.) |
SpiritCrusher2
12.05.12 | I thought true metal was all metal except -core bands |
YUJOS
12.05.12 | That would also mean the existence of the term true core? |
MaidenFan24
12.05.12 | Yeah, it's probably subective as you're suggesting. Altough I have seen a lot of metal labels promoting bands in the tradition/doom metal genre as "true metal". I have no idea man D: |
DotEight
12.05.12 | "I thought true metal was all metal except -core bands"
Metal is metal. Music evolves with age, if it all the stayed the same over the years it'd get pretty boring wouldn't it?
I like bands ranging from Converge to Death to DEP to Oh, Sleeper. It's all metal to me. |
Wafflez
12.05.12 | Trueness probably has something to do with traditional sounds or something. For example Bloodbath is "true death metal" but Amon Amarth isn't etc. |
VermicideReloadead
12.05.12 | The whole true metal shit is annoying as fuck. |
YUJOS
12.05.12 | True death metal as a term doesn't exist. If we play the labelling game then Bloobath would be a death metal band playing old school death and Amon Amarth are Viking Death Metal. Bottom line they are both death metal for me. |
DotEight
12.05.12 | Again, metal is metal. When you start nitpicking genres is when you lose sight of what matters - it's
all good fucking music. |
Wafflez
12.05.12 | You're missing the point though Yujos. But yeah agreed who cares how true what is. |
Wafflez
12.05.12 | Edit: Forgot to mention. This list is actually really fucking cool lol :) |
YUJOS
12.05.12 | @ Wafflez Yeap lost the point man. Just re read your comment. See what you meant now. |
YUJOS
12.05.12 | Also yeah fuck all this bullshit with the terms "true" and "trve" or whatever else. |
SpiritCrusher2
12.05.12 | "I like bands ranging from Converge to Death to DEP to Oh, Sleeper. It's all metal to me."
Converge and Death are two of my favorite bands lol. I don't mind what is the genre as long as I like the music, it's just I thought that the term "true metal" was for all metal genres, except metalcore, deathcore etc. but I find that really dumb though |
Hyperion1001
12.05.12 | amon amarth is generic melodeath but if were REALLY interested in labels both bloodbath and amon amarth are what is known as "shit metal" |
YUJOS
12.05.12 | @ MichaelSnoxall Blame also the mags and the rec companies themselves also for describing bands like pirate, alien, gladiator, transformers metal or whatever. |
Wafflez
12.05.12 | Oh shit the true police has arrived. Everyone quick start jamming to None so vile. |
PunchforPunch
12.05.12 | A genre of music is defined by how it sounds, not what the lyrics are about. |
DotEight
12.05.12 | "A genre of music is defined by how it sounds, not what the lyrics are about."
This. |
YUJOS
12.05.12 | ^ True also. |
MaidenFan24
12.05.12 | Dear God what have I started? D:
So yeah, gonna agree with the rest of you that this "true" thing isn't really anything but bullcrap. But I've allways thought that the "true" metal thing is more of a statement than a genre. To keep it true in that sense is to stay close to what the "original" metal bands were doing when they first made the scene. But again, this list is sorely made to express what bands I think of when I hear the term "true metal", not factual statements of what bands are true and which ones aren't ;) |
PunchforPunch
12.05.12 | Between the purist and me |
AndManyMore
12.05.12 | Honestly when I think of true metal, I think of power metal... even though I don't listen to it. |
AndManyMore
12.05.12 | i'm talkin' bout practice. |
YUJOS
12.05.12 | practise???? we're talking about practise??? hahahaha |
JokineAugustus
12.06.12 | Screw the labels and idc if I have "shit music taste" because of it. |
MaidenFan24
12.06.12 | Well, it's more of a suggestion than a factual statement. I still have no idea what true metal is, but whenever the term is mentioned, these bands springs to mind for some reason :/ |
TheHamburgerman
12.06.12 | As much as a shitfest the band is, Manowar needs to be in here too. |
HSThomas
12.06.12 | True metal: Illogical and annoyingly retarded term used by people with issues. |
SIMBOLIC
12.06.12 | I don't give a shot if its true or not. But true metal to me has that feeling. That feeling where you just want to raise your fist with a grim look on your face and feel brutal |
vonseux
02.06.16 | No ManOwaR : no list |
