11.30.12 | 1: not believing in genres is stupid, but I agree that a band should not adhere to a strict style when creating music
2: if you're not happy with the creative direction they're taking, TELL THEM. If you're a part of the band, you have a say.

11.30.12 | by not believing in genres, do you mean that they don't wanna admit that 8-bit tracks over hard rock is unoriginal and kinda sucks? yeah, I'd quit if i was you |
BigBlob
11.30.12 | You dont make music for a specific genre. It should only be put into genre once its finished. |

11.30.12 | I'm afraid they would contemplate removing me from the band if I tell them outright that it's a bad idea. I've told the arranger that it might be cool in the context of math rock or post rock but he says he's working on a punk song with 8-bit midi. I've given them the idea but they keep on insisting that we can't have any genre attachments. So one guy writes a punk song, one guy writes jazz, one guy writes metal, one guy writes pop, and it's all supposed to fit nicely together according to the newest member of the band. I'm not saying we can't do it, but I'm just really sceptical. |
Sapientlife
11.30.12 | if you guys are going to write like that with all different styles, songs should be written by jamming together to see what fits, not writing all the parts separately and then hoping they fit somehow miraculously when you get there. |

11.30.12 | my band doesn't really believe in genres. we just write music based on what we're digging/having fun playing at the time. we have tapping as a common denominator but that's about it |

11.30.12 | From the sound of it we're going to sound like the Scott Pilgram soundtrack. |

was about to say you'd sound like anamaguchi |
mrbloke
11.30.12 | I just listened to Anamanaguchi for the first time. It was decent but still not entirely thrilled about the whole concept. The band probably didn't like my idea but they never approached me about it so how was I to know? |
MichaelSnoxall
11.30.12 | Yeah, you should be a jam band if that's the case. Everyone going back to their own places, writing whatever the want and coming together with a clusterfuck of sound will be shit. If you're gonna mesh so many genres, do a jam band (kind of like motW). And they don't want to stick to genres, yet they're all writing specific genres? |

11.30.12 | You should just write material together and try to make it not suck.
Genre problem avoided. |
ButteryBiscuitBass
11.30.12 | The band sounds retarded (not in a horrible way, but individual ideas mashed together will never work, anything that one creates must have direction). Be the primary songwriter - job solved. |

11.30.12 | I'm rhythm guitar and eventually vocals. I wanted to be the primary songwriter but atm i can't play very well. |
