| Melodeath/Post Hardcore Recos
I've been trying out melodeath lately and while I dig the musical style of the stuff I've heard, I don't really enjoy the vocal delivery. Basically, what I am trying to find is the style of melodeath/metalcore with more of a post hardcore vocal delivery (more sing/scream style instead of all scream). I have tried to do some research on my own but haven't had much luck. Here is a list of stuff I listen that's in the post hardcore/metalcore area and at the end are the melodeath albums I've tried out. | 1 | | Thrice The Artist in the Ambulance
One of my favorite post hardcore albums, I think it was one of the first I ever listened to. Also really like Illusion of Safety and Vheissu. | 2 | | Alexisonfire Crisis
Another favorite in the post hardcore genre. Love the sing/scream vocal swaps of Green and Pettit. Watch Out is also a great release from them. | 3 | | Funeral for a Friend Welcome Home Armageddon
Another favorite post hardcore release. Clean vocals can be a little weak at times, but otherwise good stuff. | 4 | | Strung Out Exile in Oblivion
The album is kind of split between hardcore and pop punk and I'm not really sure what these guys are considered (mostly punk I think), but I dig the heavier side of this album. | 5 | | Avenged Sevenfold Waking the Fallen
Not a huge fan of these guys, but I dig this release. The guitarist are pretty great, but the vocals are kind of iffy. | 6 | | Haste the Day Attack of the Wolf King
I have most of their stuff, they are a little hit and miss. This is probably their best offering before they split up. | 7 | | Killswitch Engage As Daylight Dies
Pretty good metalcore band and have a decent ratio of singing to screaming with some really nice guitar work. | 8 | | Cave In White Silence
I really like the metalcore sections of this album. The band is very experimental and typically succeeds in whatever they try. | 9 | | Silverstein Discovering the Waterfront
When they focus on heavier, more technical songwriting and do screaming/singing vocal swaps they are pretty good, but their lighter stuff isn't the best and the clean vocals are kind of bad. | 10 | | This section intentionally
left blank. | 11 | | Insomnium Above the Weeping World
These 3 are the melodeath albums I've tried out. Love the guitar parts on the tracks I listened to, but I just couldn't get into the vocal style. | 12 | | In Flames The Jester Race | 13 | | In Flames Whoracle
If anything jumps out to you based off what I've said and listed, go ahead and rec me some stuff if you want. I'd appreciate it. | |

10.23.12 | the Haunted is still the only band I can think of that sounds like what you want. You'd think it would be more common as metal vocals are undoubtedly shit. | Ecnalzen
10.23.12 | Yeah, I'll check out more of their stuff then. Well, if you know any other metalcore or post hardcore (or a mix of both) that I might like you can throw that my way too. | JustinKing
10.23.12 | Even though this style of metalcore's kinda gone off my radar, I'd suggest Bury Tomorrow, newer As I Lay Dying releases, Silent Civilian, Adeste, The Devil Wears Prada, Oh, Sleeper, and various other more modern metalcore groups. Props for Cave In, though. If you want bands in that kind of style, try Fordirelifesake, Drowningman, Gizmachi, and Skycamefalling. | Scoot
10.23.12 | just get gospel - the moon is a dead world
better than anything you're going to find with those credentials | Ecnalzen
10.23.12 | @Justin
I've heard AILD, TDWP and Oh, Sleeper. Didn't find much appeal in the first two and I would have liked Oh, Sleeper if they if they used clean vocal more often. I'll try the others and thanks for the Cave In recs. They are one of my favorite bands.
Thanks, Scoot. I will give it a shot. | JustinKing
10.23.12 | Just thought of some others that may be more up your alley. Affiance, I am Abomination, The Amity Affliction, Burden of a Day, The Color Morale, Forever Never, Lower Definition, Wolves at the Gate, 36 Crazyfists, Glassjaw, Caliban, From Autumn to Ashes, Of Hearts and Shadows, Phoenix Mourning, and The Sorrow. | WeepingBanana
10.23.12 | damn listen to better p-hxc | silentstar
10.23.12 | Let's see, some of these might be up your alley:
Adept - The Business of Living
Architects - Outsider Heart
Deaf Havana - Another Day in the House
In Hearts Wake - The Traveller
Periphery - Facepalm Mute
This or the Apocalypse - Gaunt and Fierce
Times of Grace - Willing
also, I second The Color Morale and Wolves at the Gate; they have great cleans | bach
10.23.12 | Dark Tranquility- The Gallery
Misery Signals- Of Malice and the Magnum Heart
Poison The Well- Opposite of December
Dethklok- Dethalbum 1,2 and 3
Scar Symmetry- Holographic Universe
| Ecnalzen
10.23.12 | I have To Our Forefathers by I am Abomination. It's pretty cool. I know of From Autumn to Ashes but I haven't listened to them. I don't think I am familiar with the rest, except for Deaf Havana. I've only heard them since they dropped their post hardcore sound though.
Alright, thanks for the recommendations, everybody. I'll start shuffling through stuff at some point. | Azn.
10.24.12 | Listen to Life In The Way.
Their albums "Kingdoms" is fucking perfect. | Ecnalzen
10.24.12 | Damn, you weren't kidding az. So far Kingdoms is impressive.
I checked out Wolves at the Gate and The Color Morale since they had two recs. I loved the Wolves at the Gate album Captors and I dug a couple of random Color Morale tracks that I found. | MeatSalad
10.24.12 | Amon amarth | Azn.
10.24.12 | Color Morale isn't bad, I like their singer and they're usually catchy.
And lol Kingdoms is ridiculously good and was really easy to get into for me.
Try Erra (1st LP only, not their EPs)
Also go on youtube and watch This Or The Apocalypse's video for Subverse | Ecnalzen
10.24.12 | Alright az, I will check them out too. Finished that Kingdom album, fricking loved it.
Cool, thanks flutter. I will try out some more melodeath. Maybe I will get used to the vocals after Inlisten to it more. | benkim
10.24.12 | Based on your description, Darkest hour would interest you because it has more of the Melodeth guitar style you are into and less of the Death metal vocal style that seems to put you off.
Darkest Hour- Deliver Us. | benkim
10.24.12 | Insomnium's newest release is also a little like what you are looking for. | Ecnalzen
10.24.12 | Awesome. Thanks benkim.
I actually wasn't sure if I was going to get much out of this list after having pretty much no luck on my own, but I have all kinds of new stuff to check out now. This is way more informative than a Yahoo, Google or Wikipedia search, lol. Way to represent, users of Sputnik. | KILL
10.24.12 | megadeth | Shuyin
10.24.12 | mors principium est | Havey
10.24.12 | ewww | Atari
10.24.12 | Hey, I dig a lot of this music, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would fit what you're looking for. I'm brainstorming though... | Ecnalzen
10.24.12 | Ha ha, thanks. Basically, technical part writing of the instruments (guitar being the main focus) a la melodeath, but with more of sing/scream combo instead of all screaming. | Ecnalzen
10.24.12 | OR just some more melodeath, metalcore or post hardcore bands based of what I have listed would work too. Don't think too hard about it though, not a big deal Atari. | Atari
10.24.12 | Lol well other than post hardcore, what metal vocalists do you like? Metallica? Megadeth? That might help me think of something. Also, I know it may sound overrated cause people talk about it so much, but you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't check out Death - Symbolic. It's technically not melodeath but for death metal it's not too extreme. | Ecnalzen
10.24.12 | Hmm... To be honest, I am not a big fan of 80 metal/thrash vocals. I listen to that more for the guitar work. I really enjoy the voice of the guy from Killswitch Engage and Dallas Green (Alexisonfire) has an AMAZING singing voice but he is kind of in a league of his own, lol. Are there other metalcore bands that have a similar style to Killswitch Engage?
I will try out some Death. Can't promise anything if it's straight up death metal though. | Atari
10.24.12 | do you mean melodeath bands that have a similar style to killswitch cause pretty much every metalcore band has a similar style lol | Ecnalzen
10.24.12 | Ha ha, I don't know. I guess that's true.
Listened to some of the Death album you suggested. You were right, it wasn't as crazy as some of the other death metal I have heard and I didn't mind it. | Atari
10.24.12 | Sweet man yeah unfortunately most death metal or melodeath doesn't seem to have vocal styles similar to post hardcore but if I come across anything I'll be sure to let you know ; ) |
