Crymsonblaze 09.18.12	A Nightmare on Elm Street. The first movie is a nigh perfect blend of creativity and entertainment. The Dream trilogy (3, 4 and 5) are all really fun, and the two black sheep (2 and 6) are pretty bad, but occasionally entertaining. New Nightmare is amazing. Scream. The first one is fantastic. The second and third one are pretty good sequels, and the fourth one was a great revival. Evil Dead. They're all classics. Honestly, I've seen the second one less than the other two, so it's my least favorite of the bunch, but they're all great.

Crymsonblaze 09.18.12	Never got super into the Halloween or Friday the 13th series. I like some of the entries in the series though. I like the overall mystery of Halloween a lot (I think 1, 2, 4, and H20 are all pretty good), and I like the really over the top Friday movies (4, 6, 9, and X). Overall, not a huge fan of the two series but they definitely have their moments.

I'm the type of person that likes to see the progression of art so I like that started with 80's slashers and then simultaneously worked my way backwards and forwards through the genre as I grew.

It's hard to evaluate any art when you aren't around for it's originality. Ever watch the stuff from the 70's and think... why is the blood scarlet bordering on Crimson?

YankeeDudel 09.18.12	Jaws was supposed to have the shark in the movie much more but they had problems with it so they had to keep it minimal. The best thing that could have happened though. Spielberg's movies age really well to me. The shark in Jaws still looks more than real enough to get the job done today. The ships in Close Encounters look solid too, and Jurassic Park looks like it came out yesterday. Those raptors still haunt my dreams. In fact Jurassic Park is the perfect example of a great balance of CGI and Models.

The one positive example I can think of (other than well-done early examples like T2 and Jurassic Park) is Drag Me to Hell, where the extremely phony CGI enhances the cartoony atmosphere of the film. Also Raimi, incidentally. "a perfect example of how CGI ruins things is the thing vs. the thing prequel. when the crew actually took special care and hard work crafting the effects with models instead of just lazily putting it into a computer it turned out much more better." I read something about how they actually made models for the Thing prequel but replaced them with CGI at the last minute. I dunno how much truth there is to it, but it was an interesting read. Sure the CGI is awful in the prequel, but that movie would have sucked even with practical effects thanks to crappy direction and an awful script.

Nightmare Before Christmas is a classic and it worked for that movie since ya know it was ALL stop motion. But if used in a live action movie it can look horrible and cheesy like any other effect. It all depends on how its used. Its like in the first terminator at the end when terminator's skeleton is in stop motion. It honestly just looks bad now. Sure theres a charm to that scene and its a great movie regardless but the CGI in T2 blows it out of the water.

ViralOblivion 09.18.12	It wasn't even about emotion it was about his evolution as a person as he gets more and more power and cares less and less about anyone and everything and that movie is inspired by 2001 the beginning and the ending are switched Daniel in the end beats the guy up with the bowling pin and in 2001 in the beginning the monkey beats the skull with the bone and in the end of 2001 he's a man with a lot of ambition to become something else entirely and same goes when Daniel first finds that oil deposit it changed him forever

YankeeDudel 09.19.12	So I watched the first Hellraiser yesterday. Never saw it before fully actually. I thought it was good. All the effects still hold up very well. It wasnt scary but it was a solid movie. Kind of proto torture porn in spots even as it relied more on gore than scares. The biggest disappointment though is that Pinhead is barely in the thing. Dudes a G tho.
