Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 2

I don't mind part 1, but part 2 is their definitive album. Lots of great songs on here, one of the only power metal albums I like that wasn't released by Blind Guardian.
7Eric B and Rakim
Follow the Leader

Another classic from Eric B and Rakim, this duo was absolutely fantastic.
6Swans
Love Will Tear Us Apart

If memory serves me correctly (it probably doesn't), I think this is the first album with Jarboe. Well, it's not an album, it's an EP, but Gira does such a good job with this song that I had to include it.
5Metallica
...And Justice For All

The production hurts this album, but not enough to bump it back a bunch of spots. It's inconsistency stops this from being an album of the year. It drags too much in the middle with songs like The Shortest Straw and Harvester of Sorrow.
4Joy Division
Substance

It may be a compilation, but it's so good. Has some previously released songs and some previously unreleased stuff. Atmosphere is possibly the best Joy Division song ever written.
3Big Daddy Kane
Long Live the Kane

This album rules. Judging by the album art you might think it's going to be something silly, but really, it's very good. Kane has an awesome flow and the beats are killer.
2Iron Maiden
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

The only reason this album doesn't get the top spot is because I tend to have really varying feelings about it. Sometimes I can listen all the way through, but sometimes I get bored around the halfway mark. Either way, songs like Infinite Dreams, The Evil That Men Do, and Moonchild solidify this as a top release of 1988.
1Testament
The New Order

I like Testament, but for the most part their albums suffer from Judas Priest's problem of excessive amounts of filler. Well, except for this album, this album is fantastic through and through. This was a tough go to try and narrow the top album down for this year.
