batman and robin - cancer/5 |

Masochist
07.21.12 | Weird, see I enjoyed Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and Batman: Under The Red Hood more than I liked Mask of the Phantasm. Both live-action Batman movies that feature The Joker are the best of their respective runs; which one's better out of those two, I couldn't tell you. |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | Red Hood was sweet yeah |
Hyperion1001
07.21.12 | of the non-nolans i definitely like returns the best, its one of burtons better films even though he is a hack director
batman and robin is a terrible film i know but i love shit movies and that one is just so much fucking fun, i think i enjoy watching it more than any other |
Hyperion1001
07.21.12 | also i only ranked feature films not the direct to dvd ones
if they made a cybernoir film out of batman beyond it would be the best movie ever |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | They need to do the killing joke as an animated movie |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | Crysis: Oh hi there. |
theacademy
07.21.12 | begins and &robin are the worst by a pretty wide margin... all the other ones are great films |
theacademy
07.21.12 | also why doesn't this list have Red Hood?
it's easily top 2 along with TDK |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | What's wrong with Begins? Also, I found some pretty glaring faults with the newest one, although I do love it. For example: the timeline was a fucking mess, and by extension the pacing was fucked up. That and Nolan sends mixed messages about class disparity. And although Bane played his part to a T, he was more or less a pawn and I didn't like his lack of prominence nearing the final sequence. |
theacademy
07.21.12 | hush might have been better, death in the family predates it tho |
theacademy
07.21.12 | begins is excruciatingly boring...
it's not the movie's fault, without begins, TDK would have been worse... it's a set up piece... its not like a book's introduction is ever your favorite chapter, right?
you cant compare begins to the other movies, because if you do, its decidedly unenjoyable |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | begins sets up the new one hard too
|
theacademy
07.21.12 | agreed^ |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | well they're both in the new one so you should be happy |

07.21.12 | ICE TO MEET YOU.

Trebor17
07.21.12 | Hey Batman, what killed the dinosaurs?
THE ICE AGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | Hey man, Captain America is far and away the best of the new super-hero films (barring the Batman movies... although Nolan is a little too predictable). |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | Why you in this thread if you haven't seen it, that's such a pleb thing to do sorry
And it was already confirmed that they had cameos anyway |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | Yeah, that's a pretty unnecessary spoiler... |
TheFonz123
07.21.12 | my two favs are the tim burton one and the "Dark night" becuase they are both chilling which is how batman should be. it should be dark and cynical, those two do that more for me than the others |

07.21.12 | nice list hype |

07.21.12 | dear god captain america was such shit it was almost as bad as the hulk movies |

07.21.12 | New Spider Man is a 1/5 just for the crane scene |

07.21.12 | lol of course!^ |
theacademy
07.21.12 | im not paying for spider-man until its 3.99 or less thats my price point don't give a FUCK i have blade ii on dvd im more than good |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | acad: the biggest problem i had with captain america was with the antagonist. my god was he ever poorly portrayed. aside that, i think it's better than Green Lantern, Thor, Iron Man 2, etc., by a huge margin. |
theacademy
07.21.12 | well anythign is better than green lantern. iron man 2 is pretty lame but still better than CA imo. Thor is solid but not great. Thor has the worst acting out of all of them haha. |
theacademy
07.21.12 | Thor is the best out of the ones you mentioned by far tho |
theacademy
07.21.12 | lol nice timing |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | acad: aesthetically maybe, but like you said, the acting is terrible, and i pretty much can't get past it. thor speaks like a moronic viking, and the shit he says is hilariously profound. |
theacademy
07.21.12 | out of the actual heroes tho:
batman > spiderman > iron man > green lantern = thor > captain merica |
theacademy
07.21.12 | honestly, if you judge a superhero movie by its acting we shouldn't be talking about this because i don't want to be mean to you |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | awesome, we have quite literally the exact same ordering. |
theacademy
07.21.12 | i actually had no background of green lantern until i saw the film, hated it, then started reading about him |
theacademy
07.21.12 | also i rode the roller coaster they build at my local six flags and it was fun |
theacademy
07.21.12 | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60zrnOyBo3U |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | of course i can judge a superhero movie based on its acting... look at nolan's take on batman - superb acting (for the most part). thor's dialogue is fucking cringe-worthy, kind of, y'know, detracts from the overall experience. |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | green lantern (comics) is cool. the movie... not so much lol. |
theacademy
07.21.12 | "ook at nolan's take on batman - superb acting (for the most part)."
bahahahaha superb acting for supporting characters and one villain... (havent seen the new one yet).
What's more, Thor's dialogue vs. batman's dialogue islike the most unfair comparison you can ever make... gotham is grounded in the underbelly of every city + centuries of crime cinema... Thor is fucking asgardian. |
theacademy
07.21.12 | the wolverine movie arguably had better acting than the nolan batmans even if you don't take out will.i.am |
theacademy
07.21.12 | ledger's performance was incredible tho |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | be that as it may, the dialogue is considerably dumbed-down from the comics. they could have at least compensated with some witty lines or something. |
theacademy
07.21.12 | yea that i can agree with |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | ugh, the portrayal of deadpool in that movie is so fucking irksome. what a colossal screwup. |
theacademy
07.21.12 | yea, bummer about that |
XingKing
07.21.12 | As if having Rises as number one wasn't an indicator that this list was a piece of shit, the lack of Return of the Joker invalidates it completely. |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | acad: you think someone should make a movie about deadpool? i think that would be pretty awesome permitting whoever took it on didn't piss on its legacy. what director do you think would be best? i don't think people who aren't intimately familiar with these marvel comics should be going anywhere near these films though. |
Hyperion1001
07.21.12 | "That and Nolan sends mixed messages about class disparity."
this so fucking much, it was the biggest problem with the film.
"rise up against the higher classes, oh wait im just a little slave man woohoo!" |
Hyperion1001
07.21.12 | they basically, for lack of a better word, pussified bane at the end. throughout the whole movie he was this badass revolutionary rise up character with questionable motives but then BAM hes actually just a hopeless romantic doing a mad little girls dirty work
the whole movie was based around be as absolutely anticlimactic as it possibly could. i mean when he died it was just oh he got shot BYE CHARACTER WE FOLLOWED THE WHOLE MOVIE |
Xenophanes
07.21.12 | I haven't seen Thor because it looks silly, but it's on netflix. Is it worth 2 hours of my time? |
Xenophanes
07.21.12 | I hate how people are looking too much into the class disparity thing. Yeah its a theme but I don't think Nolan's intention was to spark some debate. I've read a couple of reviews that say it mirrors the tea party and occupy movement. It's fucking Batman lol, |
Hyperion1001
07.21.12 | is you want to see natalie portman go from awesome astrophysicist scientist lady to lovesick teenage girl in the span of 10 min sure watch it |
XingKing
07.21.12 | " he put Rises as number 1 you illiterate dumbass"
I said putting Rises as number one was an indicator that this list was poor, you stupid fuck. |
Hyperion1001
07.21.12 | but i didnt put it as one you cockbag look at the numbers |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | bane was seemingly creating a huge rift between the rich and the poor, addressing obvious issues of
inequality and lulling the less fortunate and oppressed into a false sense of security. he seems to be
trying to unify people in overthrowing the upper-class, but that completely contradicts his ultimate
plot to destroy the city and all its inhabitants. and the big problem is: what the fuck motivates
bane? we're never quite sure, even with his background presented to us nearing the final scene. |
Xenophanes
07.21.12 | It is clearly 8 lol wtf |
Xenophanes
07.21.12 | Yeah I didn't get that either. Why incite a revolution if the plan from the beginning was to kill everyone anyway? |
MO
07.21.12 | "you think someone should make a movie about deadpool?"
man I've been saying this forever
the only problem is the violence, because deadpool is a relentless motherfucker and this movie would have to be all sorts of rated r |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | Xeno: that's what i'm getting at when i say nolan sends confusing messages of class disparity. there
is no ultimate goal to sustain a class system whereby all peoples are equal, which makes their plot to
overthrow the rich nonsensical. it's just destruction for the sake of it, and that seems like a
shallow theme to me. kind of trite, actually. |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | Nolan said Rises isn't supposed to be political, he just thought it works as a cool story
The message of the movie to me if i made one would be yeah the 1 percent suck but if we were in charge things would be even shittier
The guys overthrowing the rich are the bad guys in the movie duh |
XingKing
07.21.12 | Gosh darn, you are right. I am used to these lists starting with number one and I didn't even bother to look at the numbers. BUT STILL... no Return of the Joker.. |
Xenophanes
07.21.12 | Okay I see what you mean know. I thought you were trying to say how Nolan was attempting to send some message about class warfare or something. Sorry my mistake. And yeah it does seem pointless, especially considering how they could have blown up the city immediately.
The only thing I can think of is that by giving the people
5 months of freedom it gives them hope, which reflects his thoughts on that prison being hell because there cannot be true despair without hope or something along those lines. |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | MetallicOpeth: do mainstream films still get the 'R' rating? i don't think they do, because their audience would be considerably lessened, which means they wouldn't turn much of a profit so therefore they'd need to omit a lot of the violence. it's bullshit that a small panel of judges determines the rating of films. i don't think we actually know the criteria for how they decide on a rating for a film, nor are we aware of the members of the committee. |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | potato: how does striving to overthrow the upper-class and give the power to the people not contradict his overarching plot to kill everyone anyways? his convictions are a lie. that's fucking stupid. |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | The ratings system is complete bullshit, watch This Film Is Not Yet Rated
|
Gyromania
07.21.12 | i've seen it, it's good. |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | His plan the whole time was to destroy gotham completely, he used the overthrowing the rich people thing to get more followers just in case batman came back or the cops escaped or whatever |
Xenophanes
07.21.12 | Yeah I agree with Matt it seems like a waste of time when you just wanna kill everyone anyways. At least with the jokers sensless acts they pretty much stated that nothing he did had a point because he was a psychopath. |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | i'm not too learned on the comics, so i'm not sure what to make of nolan's adaptation. i guess i might be out of my element here, just making observations. |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | I guess maybe Bane knew the bomb would take 5 months or whatever so he's like well I might as well enjoy myself and fuck shit up while we wait
|
MO
07.21.12 | "do mainstream films still get the 'R' rating?"
exactly
that's kinda was I was getting at, the fact that in order to really stay true to the comics they'd have to either tone it done like a motherfuck or know that they'll be losing $$ for limited views |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | Nah they stay true they just have to cut away sometimes like in The Dark Knight it cuts away when Joker does really fucked up stuff |
MO
07.21.12 | "i'd say he did a pretty fucking good job by pitting the city against itself before trying to completely obliterate it"
yes, HARD too, but that shit gets ruined towards the end, I wont spoil shit but goddamn brought my piss to a boil |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | Well yeah that's the theme of Batman is mental illness and trauma and shit, they're all psychopaths even batman pretty much |
controlled
07.21.12 | cap america better than the first iron man? like the first iron man that was on par with TDK? hmmm ok |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | bane, as a character oppressed and impoverished for most of his life - one who consequently developed a burning hatred towards authoritarians and rick folk - confuses me with his motives. i'm also left puzzled because never is there an attempt to explain bane's funding and resources for all of this. |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | Exactly potsy, I remember the episode of the animated series where a lawyer was making the point that batman makes more crime than he solves cuz all of these supervillains exist because of him |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | potato: bane doesn't show much interest in crushing the bat in this movie. he only seems compelled to do so because he's a nuisance, otherwise he seems much more preoccupied with his other goals. |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | Silent don't read this post:
"i'm also left puzzled because never is there an attempt to explain bane's funding and resources for all of this."
Talia is the leader of the league of shadows bro, they fund this shit and provide the dudes |
Gyromania
07.21.12 | yeah i got that, but still... how?
"Like any of batmans villains, bane would have no point in existing without Batman."
yeah, that isn't even remotely apparent in the film. nolan's vision definitely differs greatly from the comics. |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | The league of shadows took down Rome dude |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | Well you know Nolan doesn't do supernatural stuff in his batman flicks |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | Well just see the movie and you will know |
Trebor17
07.21.12 | It's weird, like even if you and your friend have different theories about the movie they're probably both true, hard to explain until you see it |

07.22.12 | batman and robin is so bad but TDK would be perfect if Katie was still rachael |

Agreed on the first count, but Ra's is NOT immortal. |

07.22.12 | he is immortal in SPIRIT |

evilford
07.22.12 | I would say Burton's best was the original and Returns was good. Forever is underrated and B&R is easily one of the shittiest movies I've ever seen but I agree it's funny to watch.
TDK is the best of Nolan's and of all Batman movies for that matter I believe but Begins is also awesome. The more I'm pondering Rises I think it was pretty good despite some goofy plot holes and horrible editing in parts. And Bane's death was gay.
|
Gyromania
07.22.12 | Except that he dies for good in the comics and Batman is forced to be his successor. Plus the Lazarus pit makes him slowly lose his sanity and become weaker in time. |
WhiteNoise
07.22.12 | Batman Begins is too low...it should at least be two (I love that freakin' movie)
WHERE IS ADAM WEST!? |
blastOFFitsPARTYtime
07.22.12 | TDK > DKR = BB

Gyromania
07.22.12 | Doesn't matter if it's 1 or 1 million, point is I'm right. |
evilford
07.22.12 | By plot holes I mainly mean shit that's really unbelievable even for a comic book movie but I know that's to be expected for the most part. But a lot of the last half hour or so was put together so poorly I couldn't believe it. |
Gyromania
07.22.12 | I don't need to explain. I've addressed my point already and I don't feel like arguing about it. This conversation's gone where I cannot follow. Tata |
Trebor17
07.22.12 | There is no lazarus pit in the nolanverse |
evilford
07.22.12 | And re: Bane's death, I agree that it was fitting. It just pissed me off cuz Batman came back like a mean motherfucker and was beating the shit out of him and got to his one physical weakness on his body, his morphine mask. I wanted him to break it and beat him down and whatnot but I did think the premise of how he died was fitting. Just wanted it to happen a diff way. |
evilford
07.22.12 | But really...explosive concrete???
I agree Nolan's movies are hella more belivable than most others I guess I just tend to analyze his more than any others because I like them so much. |
Trebor17
07.22.12 | Movies like this are all about the spectacle and the emotional core and the characters, you can't get to caught up in logistics
Like it really pisses me off when people pick apart Inception like the plot is the main focus or something. The movie is about a dude whose actions led to his wife's death and he feels really bad about it and has to overcome it and shit and see his kids |
evilford
07.22.12 | Agreed its not fair. But damn he was SO close to beating him hand to hand, Bane's mask was broken and starting to malfunction and he could've done it if it wasn't for that knife in the side |
Hyperion1001
07.22.12 | theres a difference between overanalzying and having to suspend logic to believe something because of poor filmmaking
i refer back to the police vs. assault rifle armed bandits. i actually thought wtf when that came around, im not sure what they were thinking but that was one of the worst battle scene ive ever seen in a movie |
