|Dvd's That Changed My Opinion Of A Band|
Here's a look at some musical DVD's i've seen that rhave rchanged my perspective on different bands. reither in a good rway or a bad way.
|1||Coheed and Cambria - Neverender|
Neverender. Never did I think i'd enjoy this DVD, previously dismissing Coheed
and Cambria as some lame Mars Volta ripoff. Not now. One minute into The Willing
Well iv I
was hooked. And it just got better, Chris Pennie's drum solo, Travis's talkbox
the crowd, the setlist. Just a wicked DVD.
|2||Sigur Ros - Heima|
I was just growing out of a punk and metal phase when I first heard Sigur Ros
didn't know what to think. So I dismissed it as some weird alien shit, like
E.T. Then fast forward a year and I saw Heima on TV and was blown away.
Everything made sense..the music, the natural beauty, the band themselves ET,
Roger and Alf ;)
|3||Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize|
The difference between this and the Arriving Somewhere DVD is like chalk and
The editing on the the Arriving somewhere DVD was so bad, it put me off the band
time. So what made me take a leap of faith and buy Anesthetize? I can't rightly
but im glad I did. One of the most engaging DVD's i've seen, setlist is amazing
Chloroform!? no Porcupine Tree DVD is ever going to be complete without that
|4||Guns N Roses - Live|
Any time I want to remind myself why this band sucks, I remember this steaming
I was never a big fan, but admittedly I did like Slash as a guitarist. Then Axl
opened his mouth..
|5||Pain of Salvation - BE|
My hopes for POS playing a standard live show were blown apart by this
if albeit accurate live show which is as polarizing as the album. But i'm a big
their previous four albums.
|6||Meshuggah - Alive|
Simply, my respect for Meshuggah went up several notches after seeing this live
I mean, I was probably a casual fan of the band before, but after seeing this I
absolutely blown away, and converted.
|7||Pink Floyd - PULSE|
Being too young to having grown up in the Floyd era, my love for Pink Floyd
about as far as three songs. I found the music distant, and very hard to put a
in my head to. After seeing Pulse, especially Comfortably Numb, it all clicked
|8||It Might Get Loud |
Ok so not a live DVD per se, but a live documentary following 3 musicians - the
immortal Jimmy Page, ummmm, ahem, the Edge from U2 and ummmmm Jack White?
Sorry, who? Where the fuck is David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Ritchie Blackmore,
Tommy Iiomi? Why is Jimmy Page jamming with these guys? Granted, Jack White is
carving his own niche. But The
|9||Depeche Mode - Touring the Angel|
Funnily enough my first memory of Depeche Mode was through hearing Marilyn
Manson's cover of Personal Jesus. I listened to the original Depeche Mode
version, and I hated it. I
was so dissapointed. Then I saw Enjoy the Silence on this DVD and my perspective
forever. Violator is one of my top 5 albums.
|10||The Gathering - A sound Relief|
A personal favourite of mine and I own a few. And it all came
by accident. I actually ordered an Evergrey DVD on ebay and this one got shipped
instead. I decided to put it on before I sent it back, but by the time I got to
Travel i was always keeping this.
|Maybe because Jimmy Page isn't a pretentious cunt who refuses to jam with anyone but rock legends you approve of. |
|I'd say fair comment but there was absolutely little if no chemistry between the three musicians on that dvd. it was so awkward because jimmy was, as you rightly said opened himself up and showed no sign of pretense. but the edge was so boring and jack white barely said a word. Lol even Bill Bailey took the piss out of the edge |
|I'm not even a U2 fan and felt the Edge was out of place on the DVD, but c'mon, they can jam with who they want. Bill Bailey was also hilarious. And Jack White doesn't need to say a word because he's a musical genius. |
|All I'm saying is that Jimmy page was the only guy trying his hardest to inject some life into it. He deserved better.|
|I actually own 4 and 7, I enjoy Axl Rose voice but I can understand why some people could find that as an annoying voice.|
|arriving somewhere>anethsythhg just cos the setlist is way better|
|Agreed the setlist on arriving somewhere is better but the editing is so bad it leaves nothing but a sour taste. |
|How good is the song chloroform though, I'd give my left nut to see that song live|
|7 fuckin sucks actually this whole list sucks|
|You guys... You need to see Parkway Drive's "The DVD". I don't even like their music ( kinda bland metalcore really) but their chemistry is awesome, I wish I could join them on the road.|
|"some lame Mars Volta ripoff" lol|
3 is the shit, need to get arriving somewhere
And yeah, Chloroform live most be amazing
| Yo cutoffs. Tomas haake rides your mumma in 4/4 time on the hi hat whilst crushing your tiny balls on his double kick drum in 16/7 time. |
|What u got princess?|
|a dick...oh wait, no coz it got cutoff lolololol|
|you fuckhead those are my sleeves you are a faggot|
|also haake is a terrible drummer he cant even ride my dad|
|i cant see your comment|
|Thats because Fredrik thordendaal is busy serenading your daddy in 7/4 time |
And lol @ rec'ing Parkway Drive.
|Parkway Drive's DVD is surprisingly interesting and very inspiring.|
|As far as "It Might Get Loud" I thought the Edge seemed kinda awkward/outta place. Page and White was an interesting combo though. Jimmy's obviously a legend and much more important guitarist, but Jack has a similar style as far as blues based rock riffs. I loved the scene when Jimmy starts playing the riff from Whole Lotta Love and Jack is just sitting there staring at him looking like "Holy Shit! Jimmy Page is standing three feet away from me playing Whole Lotta Love!". I enjoyed the film.|
|the bouncing souls double dvd documentary is so goddamn good.|
