User Spotlight: Irving

In accordance with my promise, I am making a list praising the sputnik user who won the Keane Prize Pack Giveaway. In this case, it was none other than my very own sputnik bromance partner Irving Tan Zhi Mian. This should be an easy list to make.

Irving is beyond a shadow of a doubt the nicest user on this website. That title used to belong to me, before I became a self-involved prick, but I'm happy to see the torch in the hands of this guy. He offers constructive criticism on reviews, meaning what he says without being mean when he says it. He is as loyal as internet buddies come, and even though his presence has been spotty as of late I know I can count on an auto-pos and a hefty compliment with not-so-subtle sexual undertones whenever he's around. That's the dream.

He is also quite the writer. Joke as you may about how he spent the better part of his early sput-career following me around and washing my balls, and I wish I could say I taught him everything he knows, but the truth is that he has always been an extremely verbose writer with a knack for composing ideas in an organized, understandable fashion. If he quits his day job and picks up the pace here (obviously the right thing to do), I would be happy to call him a colleague at the staff level. Of course, I still expect my daily dose of internet worship otherwise I'll review the entire U2 discography at a less than pleasing rating.

Irving is also reliable in terms of his taste. He doesn't seem to hone in on one genre, which is good because we already have our mainstream whores (most notably Davey Boy, but I ilu man) and elitist pricks (just about the goddamn rest of you). I've seen him review everything from Mariachi to Metal, from Indie to Electronica, and, of course...the legendary soundtracks of Sir Walt Disney. He also quickly develops/cops a feel of other users, so I'd trust his recommendations, at least the first time. However, if he invites you over to his house at 2 a.m. to listen to Hakuna Matata or whatever the fuck it's called, you might want to offer him a rain check.

I don't know if anyone knows this, but Deviant and I refer to Irving as our pet dog in the staff forums. It's not meant as an insult, it's purely a term of endearment brought about by his steadfast loyalty.

I love you in the same way that Jenna Fischer loves wearing black corsettes. Your presence on this site makes my heart and and other things swell with joy. Thanks for the year and a half of bro-ing out with me, and here's to many more.
