Sub Conscious
The show kicked off with some local talent, a DJ who stuck to laid back/chill
dubstep tunes. It helped set the mood, as we wandered and checked out
the lovely venue, but honestly they could have just out a mix CD in; he only
played for 30 minutes. I like to buy merch before the show starts, soon I
had a Shpongle hoodie, black Phutureprimitive tee, as well as the bands
latest LP. Chatted to the merch guy to pass time, apparently people don't
often buy as much tour stuff as my girlfriend and I, who knew? | | 2 |  | Phutureprimitive
Kinetik
If I hadn't been paying attention to the stage area we might have missed
the beginning of Rain's set; the man just walked out to his laptop and
effects box and started right in without any announcement over the PA
system. Luckily most people were there for Shpongle so the dancefloor
wasn't packed tight, it gave us an excellent view of the man I paid good
money to see. Primarily sticking to material from Kinetik Rain had a
surprising amount of stage presence, weaving back and forth with the
music as he cued various effects and the like. A definite highlight was when
he slowed everything down as his remix of "Mad World" started, telling the
crowd that they should sing along. His set ended all too quickly, and after
and hour it was time for the main event to begin. | | 3 |  | Shpongle
Are You Shpongled?
Simon was playing without the band, but that didn't mean he was "alone."
Situated above everyone was a giant mask-like booth, and for the entire
show it was lite up with an always changing kaleidoscope of psychedelic
imagery. The real highlight of this was when the booth would take on the
image of a giant mask, as the eyes were a bit angrier and the entire effect
was quite dark; seeing it shake was apparently too much for my tripping

Tales of the Inexpressible
I hadn't listened to much Shpongle before coming to the show, but I left
with a profound belief that their music is much better live/on a good sound
system. The bass-ier tracks really rolled over the weaving dancefloor, and
Simon was nice enough to give short breaks in the form of soft,
downtempto interlude type songs. There was a lot of drugs on the
dancefloor as well, some were even lighting up while moving to the beat. | | 5 | | Sphongle
Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost
A real highlight for me were the latin influenced dance numbers, fast paced
trancey bass lines filled with flamenco guitars, clapping, and a fair share of
various vocal calls. The crowd really picked up momentum at these
moments, seething faster than before. It was quite something, as there
really was nothing for it but to dance when those tracks were played; the
music's calling was so strong. Another highlight was a 30 minute + remix of
"Divine Moments of Truth," the track never ending as he brought in various
other songs only to overlay the famous vocals from the title track on top of
them. Simon's eyes and facial expressions throughout the show really
helped sell his music; looking like a Mad Hatter in a top hat adorned with
feathers the mans eyes were always moving as he sung along with his
music or made faces at his various equipment. | | 6 |  | Shpongle
Ineffable Mysteries From Shpongleland
The night ended with Simon coming out from behind the booth and shaking
hands with the crowd, a really personal tough I didn't quite expect. Luckily
for me the show ended before the 2am cutoff time, as 5 hours of Shpongle
would have proved too much for this man (I had to be sober, designated
driver and all that). The crowd was at least a good hundred or so strong
still, and most of them went outside to smoke once the events ended. A
smaller show than the rest of the groups tour, but they still made some
good money at the door. Ironically enough I knew I wasn't going to be a
huge Shpongle fan when I walked out the door and immediately started
humming "Artillery" from Infected Mushroom. | |

05.10.12 | Highlights included the girlfriend claustrophobia kicking in as the crowd packed the floor, seeing people light up on weed mid dance, and hearing some truly psychedelic music live.
Still need to look more into Shpongle, but seeing them live was too good a chance to pass up. | Baphomet

05.11.12 | I mainly went for Phutureprimitive but Shpongle is growing on me slowly; the show was a good time and hearing his tracks just recalls the lights and such. |
