Hello, I’m Timidus, and thank you for taking a look at my first ever review of any CD. I was browsing Sputnikmusic.com and noticed there was no Motörhead review available, so I decided I’d do one myself, so if it’s crappy it’s because of that.
I chose 1916 because I’ve got that CD lying around here, it was the 2nd CD I bought from Motörhead, with March ör Die being the first. I absolutely loved the CD since I heard it, and hearing a few of the songs on 1916 performed live on the “Everything Löuder Than Everything Else” DVD I knew this would be my first review.
Now here are the tracks, my grades and my opinions…
The One To Sing The Blues: Great song, great way to kick off any CD, with straight, in-your-face Motörhead. Nice drum to lead into the kick-ass guitars and the rough vocals by Lemmy.
8/10
I’m So Bad (Baby I Don’t Care): This song is just sweet. I’ve loved it since the first time I heard it, especially when in the chorus all music dies out and you just hear Lemmy yell “I’m So Bad Baby I Don’t Care”!
8.5/10
No Voices In The Sky: Straight up Motörhead music, fast guitars, sweet drums, but for me personally it’s not the highlight of the CD
7/10
Going To Brazil: This is an awesome song, it’s fun to hear, and you can hear just a little bit of old-school punky Motörhead in this.
7.5/10
Nightmare/The Dreamtime:: Kinda “floaty” music, as in you close your eyes during a good drug trip, and this is just relaxing music. Little bit eerie, but sweet nonetheless.
7.5/10
Love Me Forever: The song you thought you’d never hear from Motörhead. A kind of ballad, with slow paced verses and a rocking chorus. This one stands out since it’s slow paced, but it’s rocking as well.
9/10
Angel City: Hell, my mom even likes this one! It’s a song that gets you moving, surf/rock/metal kind of song. One of my personal favourites on the album. Period.
8.5/10
Make My Day: Pretty standard Motörhead music, fast paced guitars, raw voice by Lemmy, and Philthy on the sweet drums. Basic stuff
7/10
Ramones: A tribute to the Ramones, this song is just over a minute long but it’s a packed minute of music. R-A-M-O-N-E-S!
7.5/10
Shut You Down: Like Make My Day, this is pretty standard Motörhead music. Not much to say, it’s a fun song but not really a classic
7/10
1916: The closing song, this is a very slow paced, it tells about what’s it like to be a soldier during the 1st world war. It calms you down, but it’s repetitive….
7/10
This is one of the better Motörhead albums (although I only own three, which will soon be expanded to a sh*tload) and got them back up after years of making mediocre music. To quote Lemmy: “We are Motörhead, born to kick your ass”! Hope you enjoyed this review and that you found it helpful. Please comment, as it was my first time…
