Hypocrisy – Abducted

Album Information
This album is a follow-up the The Fourth Dimension and this album is very different to the other albums. Peter uses more black-metal vocals, screams and of course a few growls here and there. Peter’s guitar skills is also different and you can here that he has improved them pretty much, the sound is heavier and a bit more technical which gives the album a unique sound.

The Line Up
Peter Tägtgren – vocals/guitars/keyboards
Mikael Hedlund – bass
Lars Szöke – drums

Track Information

The Gathering
This is a intro to introduce the album but I think it is not worth writing about. This intro is just good as another an I will not rate it.

Roswell 47
This song is about the alien crash, how people covered it up and pretended that this crash never existed, and how people made experiments on equiqment and the aliens. This is a great song with Tägtgrens improved riffs and vocals. 5/5

Killing Art
This is so close to black-metal as you come, the intro screams black-metal but the song becomes more heavy and the vocals gets and lower tune. There is heavy shredding combined with growls and energy which makes this song interesting, but this is not a highlight. 4/5

The Arrival Of The Demons (part II)
I guess this is a follow-up to the same song from The Fourth Dimension. It has the same guitars and it has chantings plus a great guitar solo. The song is longer and the vocals is fine here and the chanting increases the rating. 4.5/5

Buried
A fast and heavy song with no intensive drumming, finally! This song screams metal and it sounds awesome. It has the same pace throughout the song which is good for those who like simple-structured songs. 4.5/5

Abducted
This is also a fast and heavy song but the intensive drumming is included. The song gets a lower pace after a while and but returns to its original pace. The solo is not one of the greatest and I’m affraid that the song does not hold up. 3/5

Paradox
The intro is heavy but calm and somewhat melodic, Peter’s mixed voice is heard and sooner the torn vocals starts. The song is calm in general and it turns up in pace at a few moments and it sounds pretty good. 4/5

Points Of No Return
Intensive drumming and tight riffing is the main sound in this song. There also shredding riffs and complex soloing in this song which has a catchy feeling to it but yet sounds very black-metalic at the time. 3.5/5

When The Candle Fades
A slow intro with heavy riffing, gets more grinding as the time goes by. The tempo is calm and heavy throughout the whole song but it feels hard to listen to it to many times but it is yet strong in its sound. 4/5

Carved Up
This sounds more like death-metal and contains of fast drumwork and heavy slow riffing. The song is moderatly fast but the vocals does not work along sometimes in this song. The vocals is a blend of growl and scream, and the solo might be one of the best on this album. 3.5/5

Reflections
I don’t know if I would call this a song but it is over two minutes long so I guess I have to rate it anyway. The intro contains of noises but later turns into a sad melodic intrumental song, keyboards is included here and it sounds good. 2.5/5

Slippin’ Away
Man I love this song, its a ballad but this is not a peace ‘n’ love song. It is highly depressing and the lyrics is about suicide and how this person thinks about life. It is a bit faster than slow and the vocals is more sensitive here. Here is the best solos of the album and this is my favorite Hypocrisy song of all time. 5/5 (but I really want to rate it: 7/5)

Drained
This is also a ballad of some sort which starts off with acoustics and it oddly sounds like the guitars in old western-movies. Peter’s vocals is more speaking but yet sensetive. Heavy and slow riffing is also included here and I would call this a power-ballad in death-metal version.
Very good song to end this album. 5/5

There you go, this is considered as an improvement of the trio and I have to agree. The sound of the songs is different from one to another and if you like slow ballady stuff you should listen to Slippin Away and Drained. If you like heavy riffing and fast tempos you should listen to songs like Roswell 47 and Buried. This is a great album for those who like swedish death-metal. Final rating: 4.7/5

I will try to use ¨other¨ words in the future next time I write something in english.

I don't care actually, this is my style of writing a review. Of course I will try to improve my writing but I will not fix anything unless someone tells me to.This Message Edited On 10.30.05

Good review, ignore Something Vague, your English is just fine. Good review, wasn't this suppose to be their best album before they planed to break up?

Edit: Instead of heavy and slow 'riffing', I recommend using heavy and slow 'paced rifts'. I don't think riffing is a word.

Thank you, I have not read so much about this band so I don't know but I think it was after all the info I have read. I think that their best album yet is Catch 22, but I have only heard three of them (yet).

Rifts sound wierd, I have seen the words riff and riffing in other reviews and I think those words works fine.

As long as poeple knows what I writing about I guess it works fine, but I will keep your tip in mind.

I love this album from start to finish. The Abducted album I have has bonus live tracks. "Fire in the Sky" live is outstanding, I like it more than the studio version. These guys stand apart from other death-metal bands.

Awesome album, will re-listen the rest of their discography that i own (Final Chapter, self-titled, Virus) to decide my favorite, they're all about equal.

This album is a bit repetitive though, especially towards the middle, but everything here is pretty awesome despite that. I think Killing Art is my favorite.

After further listening, II actually believe this to be significantly weaker than their self titled, The Final Chapter, and Virus (which are all solid 4.5s imo)

The final two ballads absolutely own though, its just that a lot of the songs are pretty much the same thing. I'd say the first two real songs, and the last two songs are obvious high lights, the middle of the album is a bit inconsistent. Still a great album though, this the 3.5.

Album is really overrated imo. Roswell 47, Killing Art, Slippin Away, and Drained are awesome, but thats about it. Final Chapter, self titled, and Virus own though.

Surely this is better than Imperanon 'Stained'? Which you have rated higher than this :/ That album, to me, is just a CoB rip off.
