Review Summary: Hydra Lernaia is an outstanding work, and may I add, what a great opener for these guys career since is their debut album.

In the last couple of years, I've been mesmerized by the amount of talent coming from France, and Eryn Non Dae. is no exception. If you expect another band that sounds like Periphery, I'm happy to say that "they will disappoint you". Since nowadays the so called "djent" movement is getting plagued with bands that sound too similar, these guys are a fresh representation of not giving a damn about trends.

The sound from this band ranges from very groovy post-metal to doom metal, which is one brave approach under this whole "djent" shenanigans. They have this chaotic gloomy atmosphere in the music that develops from beginning to end in this album, which reminds me to remind you that, the objective of this music piece is more about creating a musical experience in terms of ambiance than in terms of technicality.

The first time I heard this band, I had a Gojira flashback, and at the beginning I thought it was purely because I'm a Gojira fan, but then it hit me; I realized that Eryn Non Dae. and Gojira have a lot in common, which practically explains why both are great bands: They're loyal to their artistic truth.

I'm so satisfied with this album I can barely find any downsides, however, there are some little things that could be improved: The vocals are very good, flawless execution for the growls, although I think along the record they can get a little tiring since they're too linear. Maybe that could have been solved with some clean vocals here and there, but aside of the fact that there are some vocals that are more of a narrative section, nothing stands out as clean vocals. However, it is kind of difficult to expect something like that since there's too few spaces in the album, if any, to develop a good section for clean vocals, something with good phrasing that really stands out.

Hydra Lernaia is an outstanding work, and may I add, what a great opener for these guys career since is their debut album; I just hope that aspiring bands follow their example and stop copying what may seem secure or predictable.
