Review Summary: Beneath The Sky has brought the metalcore scene a deluxe combo of perpetual brutality, signature roaring, and clear-singing, all this with the accompaniment of various melodic riffs in the background. Thrilling.

When the Cincinnati band first released their debut More Than You Can Handle, it didn't appeal to a majority of listeners. Well, at least now that I've thoroughly played and re-played the tracks over and over on my computer and from my iPod, I can understand. But so drastic was the improvement from the first album to their second full-length album signed to Victory Records (Atreyu, Emmure, Darkest Hour), What Demons Do To Saints is truly a masterpiece. If you like heavy guitar riffs, melodic sessions in the background, and an extremely strong vocal, this is for you.

A few things worth mentioning would include the vocal's intense roars, the song structures, and the lyrics. Vocalist Joey Nelson has a piercing scream that, if I was to think of a similar sound, would have to be Haste The Day's old vocalist's scream, except much more amplified. Switching between deep roars of tremendous energy and powerful screams, Joey fills the songs with variety so that there it doesn't get boring. An example is provided in The Reason. He sings My love will rise. four consecutive times at the beginning of the song, changing from the deepest roar to the highest, most frightening scream. There is no definite song structure in this album, because for each track, it's different. For example in 7861, you have Intro, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Breakdown/End. Then, in Being In a Coma, it's something like Intro, Verse, Chorus, Breakdown, Verse, Chorus, End (which is characterized by soft piano tunes leading into guitar and clear-singing). Yes, very confusing, but that's how it's not tiring to listen to numerous times. Finally, the lyrics from this band are often metaphorical or has some sort of plot behind it. 7861 actually tells of a story of a man who died in the address stated in the song, precisely, 7861 Blackthorne.

The melodies in this album are somewhat similar to those in I Killed The Prom Queen's Music For the Recently Deceased and Parkway Drive's Killing With a Smile, only a bit slower. As for breakdowns, there aren't that many, and they aren't usually lead up that often by the band like the way Unearth-ly bands do; they just kinda pop out.

The clear-singing is also very distinctive, as it is not the young, punk-like type (The Devil Wears Prada, Emarosa), but mature, crisp, and just right. Clear-singing is a hard thing to match with the constant roaring characteristic in most metalcore bands, but Beneath The Sky sure knows how to do it well.

Highlights of this album would definitely have to be...

Ehh, mediocre review. The points you stated didn't really add up to a 4.5 rating, but it wasn't exactly bad. I won't neg.

Weak intro. Again too short, and you don't even have a conclusion. The format is unbalanced and I think you need to go more into detail about the sound. I'm contemplating a neg.

Average review for an average band.

This deserves something along the lines of a 3 - 3.5 judging from what I heard when I accepted their friend request on myspace.

What i heard of these guys was decent, but I would call the screams "signature Roaring" when he sound so simalar to Dan from zao. And when you compared him to haste the day's old singer he sound just like dan to so yeah.

I think there's some difference though. They may sound alike, but BTS's is definitely stronger, not weak and raspy.

Ehh about that no conclusion flaw...yeah i realized. Should i just add it on or bump this and do a new one?

He sounds exactly the same as the dude from Zao.

I don't like this band, they're so...average.

So-so review, too, I mean...

If you like heavy guitar riffs, melodic sessions in the background, and an extremely strong vocal, this is for you.
Not so different from all the other bands of the genre. They're just a cheap imitation band that uses some ambiance in the background so people will want to look twice. I really didn't learn anything from the review aside from the fact that they're a metalcore band with some melody and breakdowns.

I won't neg, though, it was in between for me.

Meh, I guess it just doesn't appeal to others as it does to me then. Either that, or I just have pathetic taste for metalcore eh. XD

About time i've been waiting for someone to review this overall i think its a damn good metalcore record.Personally I think the vocals sound more like Mike from The Agony Scene but thats just me.I love the breakdown in A Grave Mistake Joeys vocals in that part "I'll take your fucking name all the way to the goddamn grave!" part just makes me want to smash things. Also if you get the chance check these guys out live they put on one hell of a show.Best songs are definitely The Reason,Being In A Coma...,Falling In Love With Cold Hands,7861, and A Grave Mistake.Well good review.

I personally think that the recording is garbage. I'm not sure what it is, but something about the recording bugs me. Second off...Dan from Zao destroys this guy. Dan is one of the few screams who truly scream as loud as they can. Dan is most likely one of the best metal screamers of all-time. I do understand how they sound similar. But Dans are about 20 times stronger. BTS has a few breakdowns that are decent but nothing amazing. Dan from Zao is def the best live screamer i have ever had the pleasure of viewing. I think i may be a little bias against BTS but not that much

Well, "So Drastic Was..." usually implies that you have a "that" statement at the end, which you don't.

yeah, they're okay live. my band opened for them in Colorado, and they werent that good, but their singer was sick and they had the singer for some other band, so thats probly why it wasnt that good. 7861 was pretty sick live though. And i think this album is pretty good, but hopefully they step it up a little more in their future albums.

7861 is a song the lead singer wrote about his friend who killed himself.

I love Beneath the Sky, it kinda takes a while to get used to them, but once you get used to them they're pretty great.
