Release Date: 1983 | Tracklist

BB are:
HR-voice
Dr know-guitar, piano
Earl- drums piano
Daryl- bass and percussion

Back ground:

A group of four Rastafarians who originally started our as a jazz/funk quartet. You would expect that they then got into reggae and then punk, but in actual fact they became punks first and then under the influence of the clash got into reggae.

This album contains 4 reggae tracks and 16 punk/hardcore songs. The song is in general are fast paced. The guitar is mainly simple except for in the solos where it branches into mildly complex guitar ring. The guitar is usually fast paced as are most of the songs. The bass is also quite fast and tends to follow similar patterns to the guitar. The same applies for the drums.

The vocals are a point of interest for this album. HR jumps between tuneful and soulful reggae crooning and fast paced vocals that are to fast to be singing, but also much to fast to be rapping.

The reggae songs are all very uplifting. Piano usually replace guitar on these songs and the bass is allowed to form some very nice grooves.

Stand out tracks:

2. Attitude:

A fast paced furious punk song. It lacks musical complexity and the songwriting is hardly genius but it still a very good feel good song. And it makes you not care what people say. Well lit does me anyway.

5. I and I survive:

A reggae song. Uplifting as they come. A song about living your life the way it comes to you. The lyrics here are anti-cliché and very socially aware. The piano dominate the song but an amazingly uplifting solo on guitar appear about 3/4 of the way in. it is very clever.

6. Banned in Dc:

Another song of punk fury. It about the time they got banned from major clubs in Dc. the song has amazingly fast vocals and guitar, which mellow out a little, only to be sped right up again. The songwriting here is quite clever if a little blunt. This song also boasts a clever solo.

12. Coptic times:

A song about the religion of the band. To a non-Rasta the lyrics are probably hard to take seriously as they are basically preaching. But the song is short and sweet.

16. at the movies:

My fave. The song has a clever fast paced vocal intro. The drums play a large part in this song for me. Most ppl do not notice though. My friend said it sounds like iron maiden. It doesn't it's a punk song.

Conclusion:

I call it a classic but it sure aunt everybody's cup of tea. In my opinion the best album they made and one of the best "hardcore" albums

btw i am not a rasta so weh ni say "coptic times" may not appeal lyrically to you as it is preaching, i speak from my opinion. i ahve nothin against rastas of course and i respect that preaching should be allowed.

The 1991 CD Remaster is fucking terrible. Get the vinyl or an mp3 rip of the vinyl, as the remaster has a fucked up mix, retarded tracklisting, and everything has been pitch-shifted up 5% in speed, changing the keys of the songs and making HR sound like a chipmunk.

Yeah this is irreparably bad. The album, however, is really awesome.
