Review Summary: Put Millenarian in your cd-player, press play and the first thing that comes to mind is Mastodon’s Remission album.

Put Millenarian in your cd-player, press play and the first thing that comes to mind is Mastodon’s Remission album. I’m probably not the first to makes this comparison/compliment and yes, both bands styles are definitely similar. But American Heritage plays a blend of technical metal and hardcore that’s definitely authentic enough to justify this album. Not to give anything away, but if you liked Remission, stop reading and go check out this album.

The first song immediately sets the mood for the entire, 7 songs and 35 minutes, album. Heavy detuned riffing, technical breaks, long instrumental parts with slight classic rock influences and Mastodon-esque screaming. Even though the fuzzy guitars could have been a bit more crisp it totally fits the overall production of the album. Song titles like Peckerwood, Way to go Cowboy, Toilet Paper and Leotards, Piss Engine and Brootal: Axxis of Evil do the rest. These guys have got humor. But best of all, they’ve got the skills to play their brand of technical metal. These guys are tight!

This brings me to the only real critical note I have. The vocals. They’re good but not great. And when you hear how good these guys can play it’s a shame the vocals aren’t better. When a song like Way to go Cowboy starts of with tight riffing and technical breaks it sounds awesome, but when the vocals kick in you’ld wish they were just a bit better.

American Heritage's Millenarian is definitely one to check out if you like bands like Mastodon, Baroness, Swarm of the Lotus, Vision of Disorder and 16.
