Recording vocals.....help

so im looking for a way to get vocals sounding decent while recording at home. Right now im recording into a Fostex MR-8 through a Nady Star power 1 recording mic. the vocals aren't coming out bad they are just not coming out the way i'd like them to sound, which is a closer to studio sound. Im recording in a very small room i constructed in my basement. its got egg foam all around the inside and has relatively good acoustics but still the vocals just aren't what im looking for. im wondering if its because im not using a condenser mic but i don't think thats the problem. im in need of any tips or pointers you guys can offer me. whatever help you can give me, please give it to me, i would greatly appricieate it. thanks

hmmmm, a condenser mic would help as far as frequency range is concerned. Maybe play around with EQ a bit, compression would also help with the overall sound. What kind of sound are you looking for?

i'm looking for something closer to a studio sound, if that helps any. i mean i know they use condenser mics in studios. but im trying to make it work with what i've got.

Well I dont know the program you are using, so all I can say is you'll need to run the signal through a compresser if you want to sound anything like a studio. EQ can also be really important. Just remember that studio's do a hell of a lot to the sound to make it sound like that...
