mic -> xlr - 1/4" cable -> 1/4" 1/8" adapter

for better sound quality i would try getting an inexpensive mixer.

what if i just connect my amp to the card? also the 1/4-1/8 adapater, is there a difference? like input or output because there are these RCA ones at kmart but all they say on the box is plug them into a jack and then plug headphones. so does that mean i need to find different ones? or do adapters work both ways, like it can send the signal either way? thx!

Just plug it in back of your computer, through your amp if you want. That could work. So it would be
mic -> amp -> adapter -> computer into the mic slot. I think that should do it. Thats how I plug in my guitar. But instead of an amp I use a pedal.
