when a pitcher hits a batter is it ever an accident? is the pitcher ever really sorry?

just seems when i was a little kid when someone got hit by a pitch they would take a base and that would be that. no retaliation by the opposing pitcher, really. someone a bit older then i told me the same about when he was growing up, but even more so favoring the good sportsmanship side of things

maybe they need to stiffen the penalty for hitting a batter. two bases, maybe? but if NOT intentional? who is to say, really? i just think the on field fighting over it is absurd sometimes. seems the risk of getting hit is part of the game. take it and walk

if you've NEVER SEEN IT, the fact that they keep pitching with no real pattern, and keep quoting acronyms, plus knowing NONE of the players, can make it hard to follow at times.

well, they'll pitch until there's 3 strikes, 4 balls, a hit player, or the ball is put into play. a player is put "out" when there's a "force" at a bag. a "force" commonly called a "force out" is when there's already a player occupying a "bag" and another play wishes to occupy that "bag" or "base" (same thing). The runner must advance to the next "bag" as 2 players cannot occupy the same base or bag.

a player scores when they round all three bases and return to "home" or the "plate"

if a player is on first and the ball is put into player, the player on first must run to 2nd base unless the person hitting it is put out first, like a ball to the outfield. If the ball is caught before hitting the ground, the advancing runner has to return to the base they started at before they can progress to the next base.

following any of this?

they aren't acronyms as they dont stand for something else. it just the game given to events or locations in the game.

yeah that's all good thanks.

most of it is similar to rounders, but we had to run to first on the first pitch unless it's a no ball, but you're allowed to hit it anywhere. you only get a 'rounder' if you run the whole way round in one go. you can get a 'half-rounder' when you run to second in one go.

what i found interesting though is that games are played every day and teams play the same team 3 or 4 days running! i suppose as america is so big, they can't have a game each day if they had to travel each day, so i guess to make the most of the time they have they pay the same team days in a row. cool stuff.

it's super cool because you can watch your team p much every day if you wanted plus the sort of mini-series that evolve from playing the same team a few days in a row

it's not a real hard game to pick up but it's a game that people analyze using tons of stats so listening to the announcers can be kind of confusing. i don't even know what they're talking about half the time!
