Being short in this world

Now, I'm not short by any means. I'm 5' 8.75''.

But when I look at this beautiful men, like Drew Brees or Tom Brady, I know that I'm never going to be like them.

Now that's not always a bad thing. Rocky Marciano was about my height, and he could beat the shit out of either of those guys. That wasn't his only problem; he had a speech impediment as well but that's easily trumped by his ass kickingness.

So, I guess my question to you all is, are any of you short, like 5' 7'' or less. And how has it affected you and did you ever suffer from self-esteem issues about your stunted condition.

5' 8" is not a midget. But even if it is, I'm taller than 5'8".

Did you not know that the average American male is approx. 5' 9"? So in other words, I'm approximately at the 50th percentile, maybe a few points down. Which puts me in normal range.

However, there is a further statistical fact which requires further illumination. Height has increased greatly in the last hundred years, and since it is obvious to us that there are many millions of elders with us who are well into old age, it's entirely probable that 5' 9" is more markedly below average than what was stated earlier.

Because I was just disappointed to find this inconsistency. For instance, I always had measured with shoes, which gave me probable certainty of being 5' 9", I merely imagined what might be added by the shoes. After measuring on several occasions without shoes to control for error in the trials, I was promptly astonished to discover I had had it all wrong. I was not even as tall as I had told myself all along.

On my state driver's license records, they even have 5' 10". This means at one time, I was in serious denial. I suppose after passing through my teenage years and burning off some steam, I was fine to acknowledge that I wasn't really 5' 10" at all, that I was 5' 9".

But alas, I am not even that now.

Maybe it's spinal compression. They say as you get older, you tend to lose height, from the weakening of the matter between the bones of the spine.

Nothing more disgusting than a person who is as big around as they are tall.

They shouldn't even let these people out of their cages, filthy animals.

I saw one the other day at the pizza buffet, she must have had a sixty inch waist, but I doubt she was 4' 11" at best. Filthy pig. I didn't go out in public to watch filthy animals stuff their face.

I'm 5'8

Hate to break it to you but... It's short. By definition

But no I don't feel like less of a man because of it. The worst part is I have to watch my diet more than my 6'3 friends who can eat Cheetos all day and not show it, but it's nothing to stress over

"Height has increased greatly in the last hundred years, and since it is obvious to us that there are many millions of elders with us who are well into old age, it's entirely probable that 5' 9" is more markedly below average than what was stated earlier."

the average height of americans hasn't actually incraesed in almost half a century, it has plateaued at ~176/5' 9'' for males, probably due to diet and shifts in ethnicity

latest generation of northern european males are at 5' 11'', i guess a similar average height can be expected for middle class american whites who don't raise their kids on a diet of mcdonalds

so basically if you're white and <= 5' 9'' informed people can tell that there's an increased chance of you being the progeny of some dysfunctional crackpot peasant

and you are likely to have an below average wage, no charisma, lessened sex appeal for women in general and tall women in particular

ergo: no reason to live
