Critique My Song

I just finished a rough draft of a new song, it still needs some work. Constructive criticism and feedback would be helpful. This is my solo material so there are only electric guitar and vocals. The sample I use is from the movie The Poker House.

Could use some work. Riffs in your other songs on that soundcloud are generic. Perhaps try to throw in something refreshing and new....In other words, not just "chug chug" br00tal shit. Try reaching beyond the first 4 frets on your guitar. Also, the music you're making is Metal oriented, so this thread would be better suited in that category.

Hmm, okay thanks for the critique. I would like to understand what you're trying to get at a bit better. Was that basically all about my other songs or was that actually about the song in question, The Poker House?

For one thing, Squanderers is the only song I use all four four of the first four frets of my guitar, The Poker House uses the open fret palm muting, but other than does not use the first frets, and the other two songs don't even use my sixth string at all.

Just out of curiosity, do you listen to Metal?

I was referring to all of your recorded stuff. Try to experiment with new song structures, different time signatutes, make every song its own seperate piece of art. Not extremely similar riffs repeated over and over again. And yes, I do listen to Metal on occasion. Not my favorite though.

Since I basically want to advertise my music, but don't want to clutter the forums with threads heres my pitch:

Its a one man (me) experimental project. My influences are screamo/skramz, black metal, industrial, and noise music. Its not really instrumental, although I do make use of harmonica, bongos, and even a recorder (I use what I have lol). Its all recorded on a cell phone and edited using audacity by myself (true DIY for ya). I'm a 17 year old from Baltimore btw.

Right now the only song I have released is on YouTube, though I have other material recorded, I just never took the time to record it. I also recorded vocals once for a local "Witchhouse" musician (not really a genre of music I listen to, as far as I know its basically boring hipster music). TBH my work so far isn't what I truly want to be making, but I'm working with what I got. Ideally I'd like to do vocals for a grind or screamo band, but at the moment, I'm stuck working on my own with very little to work with.

Not so much of metal fan, but I listen on several occasions. Nice work you got there, but a variety of structures will get you going.
