Japan and China fire guns at eachother

Seems like this is the dawn of a new pacific war

http://nation.time.com/2012/09/27/history-threatens-repeat-in-renewed-pacific-war/

Japan might not have an easy time this war as they did last time over in China.

(IF you didn't know, Japan was like the Nazi's of Asia during the early 1900s)

A couple of things. They fired water cannons at each other so the thread title is kind of misleading. The article itself states this wouldn't be a new war as such because for many the last Pacific War never ended. Also -

"No one is predicting a prolonged and bloody conflict like the first Pacific War and cooler heads may yet prevail in the ongoing territorial disputes."

they do, actually, but they are constitutionally forbidden to take part in any conflict that does not involve direct defense of their sovereignty.

Of course, the moment China attacks Japan, WW3 begins. US will instantly retaliate, North Korea will get involved. US may even use nukes, but China has a no-first strike policy so they will not use nukes unless we do. NATO will get activated with US gets involved, and the whole world ends if Russia decides to intervene, although they hate China more than anyone else.

But they do have a large and well-equipped self-defence force.

ITT China and the US are never going to war...our economies are far too codependent and neither population would support a full-scale escalation.

LOL this isn't China, it's Taiwan. Both are US allies, and neither has an army worth speaking of. They're shooting water guns at eachother, for shit's sake.

Also, Japan has absolutely no moral grounding to claim foul in World War II. That was 100% Japanese aggression spurred on by hyper-nationalism. What are they going to say? "Hey, China...your babies chipped our swords when they jumped on top of them. OMG War crime!!" Don't tell me they're still claiming the Manchurian Incident was real...

What are you talking about? Neither has any military to speak of.

China and Korea are the only East Asian countries with viable militaries.

Japan is is the 6th biggest spender in terms of military spending (behind the US, China, Russia, UK, France). South Korea is the 13th. Taiwan is 22nd.

Japan has 150 000 soldiers, 46 0000 sailors, 110 warships, 45000 airmen and 800 warplanes including 405 fighters. Taiwan has 130 000 soldiers, 38 000 sailors, 38 warships, 400 warplanes.

Korea's military is seems to be bigger but neither Taiwan nor Japan is a minnow.

their actual abilities as a combat force, i dunno.

150,000? That's nothing. I'm pretty sure Canada has a larger armed force than that.

30 seconds and wikipedia can do wonders

On another forum I essentially won a debate, where my post was pretty much only 20% what I already knew, the rest was less than 5 minutes of research at that very moment. I wasn't sure if I was able to refute every point the other guy made because of how limited my knowledge was, but by the end I cleared the minefield.

One thing you guys need to take accunt is the recruitment rate AFTER a conflict has started, you think only those 130k-150k people are gonna fight? hell I wouldnt be surprised if people from China go help Taiwan out (I mean, Taiwan is kind of China so...)

Japan is 130 million, wouldn't doubt another 5 million join up, Japan take pride in their land, so does China.

after we dropped those 2 atomic bombs on japan, they still had about 2.5 million soldiers

edit: I mean considering the fact that Japan taken any major part in a war for 60 years and STILL have 150K is something...

Taiwan *is* China, in the fact that it technically (although not recognized internationally) as the ROC.

Taiwan is Taiwan.

China is China.

It doesn't matter that each of them claim to own the other, we all know they're different.
