3 movies is a good idea. It might be a littttle bit too much, especially if the rumours are true that Jackson wants to add in his own story halfway between Hobbit and LOTR to tie the two movie franchises together, I don't know if I want him diluting the material further with his own additions. I love the way he adapted LOTR, don't get me wrong, some changes made sense to make it workable on screen, but a whole new segment from his head, I don't know.

People who say each LOTR book got a movie, and thus the Hobbit should get one movie, are being over simplistic. Look at the amount of changes made to the books to fit them into one feature each. Look at the amount of material scrapped altogether, entire characters that are pretty important to the universe and story, just completely cut from the pages. Now imagine The Hobbit having three movies and actually not having to make such drastic cuts. We might actually get the full story.

The lay of Beren and Luthien as well as the children of Hurin are both very possible. Both stories are pretty fleshed out.
