well sources for that claim and also you're assuming it's evenly distributed (it isn't) and that there are no costs in moving it from one place to the other (there are)

Yes, its to do with the fact most people under 30 now have the attention span of a bored goldfish, and the educational level of Special Needs Amoeba.

When my son was small, i tried to interest him in Meccano, of which i have vast amounts left over from my childhood (and which taught me vast amounts about gears, levers and physics in general), but he quickly lost interest because it took too long to make anything, ie more than five minutes.

Not at all, you cant fight the looney left vice like grip on teaching, and its determination to implement Frankfurt School policies, which include dumbing down the population.

The fact is the methods used to teach kids for decades, which worked very well as evidenced by the fact people my age, and those who went before us, could read, spell, write and do maths properly when we left school, were abandoned in the 70's, and we've now had 40 years of looney left 'child centered' rubbish, which has as an end result created two generations of dumbass humans fit for no job at all due to there lack of any useful learning.

Most teachers are on the Left. That in itself is no cause for despair; but a worrying number subscribe to the Old Left orthodoxy – rigidly upheld by the teaching unions – that academic competition, let alone selection, is an abuse of human rights. Until now, believers in this ideology have held sway in the staff room as well as the classroom, so that those teachers (including Labour voters) who favour tougher exams and proper discipline are shouted down. Hence anarchy reigns, and no one is allowed to seriously learn anything.

The A level paper my son showed me was a joke, i could have done most of it at the age of 12, as could most of my school friends. Having done my fair share of interviewing people for jobs (i worked in IT, running large scale rollouts of LANS, WANS and fibre links), the quality of candidates from university in the last decade was appalling, I wouldn't have employed most of them as tea boy let alone IT Staff.

Ah wikipedia, the dumb kids savior. Did you know a recent study showed 60% of wikipedia articles have factual errors?

No one can actually agree how to measure intelligence, including the people who invented the many different methods of measuring IQ, not to mention there being three or five types of intelligence (depends who you believe)

MInd you, if you believe the shit on wikipedia and IQ is apparently going up, and yet kids are clearly and admittedly leaving school without even the basic skills to read , write and do maths, then that simply shows that teaching has gone down the left wing toilet. After all, if you have smarter material to work with and you still produce 18 year olds who cant spell, do mental arithmetic or even write 500 consecutive intelligently strung together and punctuated words then there is really no hope........

Well you don't know, it makes up a fair chunk of the other crap, ive found mistakes and misrepresentation in wikipedia.......and whether it did or didn't, it doesn't invalidate my criticism.

Wikipedia appeals to a dumbed-down culture of users that appreciate obscenity instead of education. The word F*CK is mentioned in nearly 7,000 articles. Its a left wing looney liberal propaganda rag, and is biassed to an appalling degree. For example, Wikipedia's entry on the "Palestinian People" omits any mention of terrorism, and if you try and add one, it'll be reverted before you can say Osama Bin Laden.

Another example; Wikipedia features an entry on "anti-racist mathematics" that "emphasizes the sociocultural context of mathematics education and suggests that the study of mathematics (as it is traditionally known in western societies) does exhibit racial or cultural bias. If that's not looney left Cultural Marxist PC educationist bollox, then i don't know what is.

Or another (there's hundreds); Wikipedia notes that: "the Contras form of warfare was "one of consistent and bloody abuse of human rights, of murder, torture, mutilation, rape, arson, destruction and kidnapping."" However, attempts to mention Sandinista human rights violations were dismissed as "irrelevant allegations," even though they killed exponentially more people. Biased or what.............

Consequently, the Flynn Effect may be in Wikipedia, but because it is, then you have to examine exactly how the thing was researched, by whom, when, who paid for the research, and if there is any counter research or criticism of it that Wikipedia conveniently forgets to mention.

You are falling into the trap of believing without checking. And if you believe Wikipedia without third party proof, you really are eating the horse shit without checking the label.

It invalidates the implied criticism that because wiki reports the Flynn Effect it must not be real.

Cool story: utterly irrelevant.

In my experience, old people are generally terrible at systematic reasoning; and even limited complaints are liable to become a rant about the whole world.

Only if i can find someone else reporting the same story, or it appears on Reuters feed.

Its called checking your facts, a concept apparently unknown here.

Not at all, it demonstrates Wikipedia is unreliable and biassed, and you can only trust it if you can verify it independently

And you appear to have totally missed the point about the Flynn effect. Wikipedia didnt make it up - but someone else might have, and wikipedia doesnt care, because it supports its liberal bias.

So you need to find out exactly who discovered the Flynn effect, and check the validity of THEIR research, and the possible bias in in it. After all, if a lab told you cigarettes don't give you cancer, then you find out BAT paid for the research, you can pretty much ignore the claim (and this has actually happened).

So who paid for the research on the Flynn Effect, and why ? And who has checked the research, if anyone? Or did some Korean student invent it from a quick survey of half a dozen of his mates?
