Gig problem

Hey guys!

So I'm new to this forum, but I;m out of ideas so idk if someone can help me...

I'm in a Punkrock band called "Project Unknown" . We're local, but getting quite popular. We got an invite by a major radio station to play there on the 5th of Feb. Problem is, our bassist quit 2 weeks ago. I tried to find a new one real quick, but the only person I could find was a guitarist who wants to play bass instead of guitar. So he's buying a bassguitar, but he doesn't know our songs and we got 1 more week for the gig. I was thinking I could do an unplugged session and play without bass, but our drummer wants to get endorsements so he rather plays the plugged versions. I'd rather play the plugged versions too, but how I am supposed to do this without time to learn the new bassist our songs? And we don't have time to rehearse... I do got the bass tracks of our album, but I think that's pretty hard to play on a bass track only, if someone gets off the timing we're screwed...

So anyone has any ideas? Thanks!

Arnout

way to be helpful there.

If I were you, I'd play the gig electric without the bassist. Playing an unplugged show when you're generally unknown won't generate any interest at all for your band. Either that or just suck it up and play with the recorded bass track.

Also, welcome to the forum, for what it's worth. We're all elitist cunts here, because that's punk rock.

mph4ever has a point.

and if you're punk, how hard is it to learn a set on bass?

if you play with a recorded bass track that's fucking hilarious and i hope there's a situation a la ashlee simpson on snl.

Bass is barely an instrument. Just get an octave pedal.

I don't know, you could always ask your former bassist to play with you at the radio. I mean, there must be not the best relationships he has with your band now, but you could pay him 50 bucks (or promise to buy a few beers lol), and he may agree to play with you one last time - don't think it's that big of a deal for him.
