musicals, like wtf?

I never understood this about musicals. They're supposed to be tales of real life. Then how could they all happen to be singing the same song at the same time?

Take Willy Wonka for instance. When Charlie and his grandfather start singing "I've Got a Golden Ticket" how could they possibly have sang that song unless they already knew he was going to win a Golden ticket? It simply isn't possible to sing the same song together without first javing learned the lyrics, or even without it having yet been written. So now we're supposed to believe that they're writing the song and singing it at the same time?

Or the Wizard of Oz, 'Off to See the Wizard' bit.

How could they have sang Off to See the Wizard unless they already knew they would be going to see the wizard? And then somebody would have had to sit down and write it. The movie does not reflect any of this.

This is something that has always bothered me about musicals.

What do you expect?

Do you think there's gonna be a whole scene devoted to them sitting down and writing a song in the event that something unlikely occurs?

It's a musical, not a documentary, you don't need to apply logic to fantasy.

Excellent musical from the creators of South Park. Not only do Trey and Matt know now to make a musical, the also know how to depict Canadians perfectly. Very impressive.

Songs are a little bit the same way. They are supposed to be conversational- but really, who talks in rhyme...

I think a better term for musical would be dramatization of reality rather than depicting reality. The music is just a way to depict the emotion Or illustrate what might be going on inside their heads...

Personally I think it would be great if when we were happy we broke out in song
