There's no swear filter on the reviews site, though?

Or are people just doing this f*cking sh!t when they realize they don't need to?

You can go back and re-edit the review after it's posted and the filter won't change it.

can we get youtube BBcode tag functionality? i know it works on vBulletin, we use it over on a local music board i mod at and we just had to have the admin go in and turn an option on.

it would be pretty rad, especially over in the punk forum where a lot of recommendations users make to one another is through youtube links as it is, and the convenience of being able to just take the video ID and embed it between [youtube][/youtube] would probably increase the likelihood of the casual or first time viewer of the forum to check out a recommendation made by a more seasoned user where as they may not have had before.

I discovered this by accident

We already have it for album soundoffs

It'd be good if png images could be accepted. Looking at blurry band pictures/album covers seems really unprofessional

It takes literally 2 seconds to convert a png to a jpeg, you can do it online

New 'Genre'-Ambient

So i've been uploading a few albums into the sputnik database and I noticed there is no genre for "ambient". I guess when i uploaded it and had to pinpoint a genre my instinct was to look for "ambient" only to realize that the genre is non existant in the genre database.

I figure it would be a worthwhile addition as a genre since it does actually span a variety of different styles (electronica, post-rock, classical) and probably a few others.

The 'Charts' part of Sputnik is fantastic, but I'd like it to be upgraded a little...

Currently it displays the top 100 albums from a genre. Could we make it so it displays the top 150 or 200? Or would this be difficult from a technical standpoint? At any rate I'd find it extremely useful.

Thanks.

I've been looking into the Soundtracks "band page"...obviously it's not a band, but rather a giant clusterfuck of every kind of soundtrack imaginable.

There technically is a "Soundtracks" subgenre under "Other", which is odd, because almost all soundtracks are posted under the "Soundtracks" band page anyway. I know they're not the most looked at on the site, but there's gotta be a better way to organize these.

It would be cool to make a thread similar to

my profile
staff reviews
blog
charts
new releases
music news
lists
message boards

dedicated exclusively to album streams, as i think new albums should be disseminated as much as possible and as long as possible.

I think album streams are vanished from the news feed rather quickly.

It would be cool to search back and listen to the available album streams per genre, for as long as they are alive.

For example, I found the other day an album stream for Kreng, that was posted a year ago and it was still active.

just sayin'

Don't we already have tags for both of those? Or do you mean the tabs on the front page that lead to a specific "electronic" page? While I don't think the latter really matters so much, I do think we could benefit from a little more specificity in regards to genre labeling. "Electronica" is especially painfully broad.

But I realize this is just beating a dead horse.

I've come to the conclusion that I don't want this site to get anymore in-depth with its labeling, especially with regards to electronic music. If RYM and Last.fm can't get it right, I can only see terrible things and suggestions being made if we followed suit

I agree to an extent, but there are things like ambient that either get labeled other, electronic, and post-rock. I'm not wanting us to go so far as some obscure octonary genre, but there are some vital ones being left out.

We should cull all genres and just have "music"
