The purpose of lists is to talk about music and we want to keep the focus on music. We're not particularly interested in policing everything you talk about, so the minimum requirement we've put down is that you make a music list and after that you can basically talk about what you want.

What do you mean by 'policing'? Pure music discussion is just as likely to boil over into WW3 as anything else we're likely to talk about on there, be it personal shit or politics or sports or whatever. If anything music is the most flammable topic, since everyone joined there in the first place because they're passionate about music. I can understand keeping porn and shit off the site though in the interest of decency, but filtering out everyday topics just for the hell of it is so pointless.

Having the 'start with a music list and talk about whatever you want after' makes absolutely zero sense to me, especially since morrissey canned my list that DID have music on it (just not my favorites, the 'quip' she's dryhumping was tongue-in-cheek and a response to other shit getting deleted) and talked about something entirely different in the comments section. I really don't know why you'd bother enforcing that, since the music on the list isn't being discussed at all, even though it's apparently the most important thing to you guys.

It's unfortunate that you don't feel like taking the discussion elsewhere but it's not really our problem and, to be honest, making you a little bit upset is a small price to pay for keeping the list section focused on music. People are going to talk about other things but this way we at least ensure people put a minimum amount of effort into upholding that standard.

For who? For what? What is the point of all this? What 'standard' needs to be upheld? Are people actually going to be turned off by non music discussion in a user created list? If they are, as I said, they probably don't have an opinion worth much, if anything.

jesus are you a fucking idiot? the review site is not a forum for general discussion. sputnikmusic is a music review web site akin to p4k but has integrated user based reviews and discussion along with other user features, e.g. lists. which is why people grow to love it. just because a lot of discussion breaks down into lame pokemon and wrestling stuff doesn't mean this is what the site is for and that you have some ingrained right to do so. the forums side is for general discussion. i dont understand why this wont sink in through your thick skull.

Not really, I think we've had a pretty decent discussion and three mods have explain our position to you and why it is so.

1) This is a music website. We would like to keep reviews/review comments, and list/list comments, related to music.
2) We understand that a small group of sputnikmusic users have a deep-seeded of using forums designed specifically for the purpose of community interaction which extends beyond music.
3) For the above reason, we range from tolerant to invisible in regards to list moderation. All we ask in return is that [general you] adopt the pretense of keeping it about music.
4) If these policies are not to your liking open, constructive debate on the topic is appreciated and taken into account. Such is the case, your evident distaste for our current system has been duly noted. Cheers and go Celtics.

I still think that pigeonholing off topic discussion amongst a fairly close knit community is crap, but maybe that's why I'm not a moderator. Jesuslaves, the forums have been functioning far longer than the review site. Furthermore, as someone who is active on both sides of the site, the integration is fine. Your choice to blatantly ignore the rules and engage in off-topic chatter where it is not permitted is your doing, not ours. If you just want to discuss these things, why does it matter if it's a 'new' community? If it's the people you want to talk to, why does it have to be on the review site? Your own laziness isn't going to dictate rule changes.
