Genres, easy.

Don't really like the friend system idea, unless it's something as miniscule as the forums friends one. Although it doesn't really get used.

Genres/tags would be awesome.

Perhaps something not unlike the last.fm-tagging system, but not quite as arbitrary (you'll never need a tag for "wiggerslam" for example).

Take a look at allmusic.com's system - they have genre, then style, then mood. Perhaps something in between "style" and "mood" would be good, something that would be relevant and descriptive yet overlap genres when needed.

Or maybe just a simple subgenre system, although some artists would always fall through the cracks in that one (like, is grindcore a subdivision of metal or of punk).

The upcoming releases should have a bump system so that popular or exciting upcoming releases are sorted out

definitely an upcoming release system... I don't have 1 reliable database for upcoming releases really, if I want to see I have to check a bunch of spots.

I'm all about the upcoming releases as well. The friend system could be interesting, but I would probably vote for the news next.

I would really like a friend system, but the genre revamping is more important, voted for the latter.

I say the genres revamp is the more "atractive" of the bunch; that way it would be easier for someone to find new bands if he's interested in a particular genre... cause sometimes "porgressive" just doesn't cut it.

Gotta go with Knott- on this one. Not taking anything away from what Willie has been doing, but there's huge room for improvement.
Come on… huge room for improvement??? Ha ha, I'm just kidding. I'm sure there is.

@QTpie: Metacritic isn't as reliable as you might think. They don't really update their lists for album release date changes. They just add the album at the new date but also leave it on the old date too… it's annoying.

I think something like a soundoff option for concerts. You could have a ratings system too, and maybe be able to put in a brief summary based on your experience. That would be interesting I think. Is there something I'm missing that makes this a bad idea? Just a thought.

I just came to realize that the whishlist option is not a bad idea at all; you can place there albums you got interested in through reviews and recs but don't have got the time to get them just yet. Perhaps a button like the "dig it" one could come in handy, just push "Whishlist" and it gets added; and when you rate the album it automaticly gets taken of the whishlist.
