(Serious) Science Fiction thread.

I've been really into serious sci-fi lately, specifically dystopian/cyberpunk works, and I thought we could have a discussion thread about it, if there's an anime thread and the occasionally horror movie thread that pops up.

I bought a copy of The Matrix a while ago after not having seen it for years, and if you put aside whatever reservations you have about Keanu Reeves's acting abilities, or how the sequels weren't as great, it's still a pretty amazing concept with a lot of stuff to think about, like the references to cyberpunk/hacker culture, kung-fu, anime, different religions/philosophies, etc., etc. I've been looking for more dystopian-type stuff like it. I'm thinking of stuff like;

The Matrix
Blade Runner
Equilibrium (I don't know if this would count)

And other suggestions would be welcome too. I've heard of some good anime in that genre, specifically Ghost In The Shell which I've been meaning to check out.

Aaaaaaaaaaand go.

That's very similar to the matrix.

I thought about Dark City while making this thread, I've been meaning to see that, and to see Brazil all the way through. I saw Children Of Men, and while I could see what it was trying to do and I could see why so many people liked it, I didn't really like it. Like, it was good, just didn't work for me.

A Clockwork Orange is brilliant, I just got it on DVD and I'm reading the book, Starship Troopers is trash though.

That is definitely false.

The sequels were trash though.

Every movie I named is at least somewhat serious sci-fi dystopian. Starship Troopers was supposed to be at least, even if it didn't succeed.

I fail to see how it can't be dystopian because the dystopian element is the entire concept?

Also, atrocious order, but a fairly complete list all in all I think:
