Post trailers of films you're looking forward to: part III

The first thread lasted a long while, but then died, possibly due to the writer's strike, I don't know.

So here it is again!

Post and discuss

PUBLIC ENEMIES
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWof6CovHxI

Can't wait for this. I love films that, when watching it, I want to be in. Plus Bale seems to have made a career out of being upstaged (re: the Joker, some Robots, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and no-one, but NO ONE can out-act Sean Bean), and Depp looks awesome in it.

MOON

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIexG8179K8

Looks pretty cool, though I'm pretty sure I've guessed what's going on in it.

THE ROAD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHYZ7xDyBEw

I loved the book for The Road. I've warmed to Viggo Mortenson since LoTR as well, so I'm looking forward to this. The trailer makes me a bit apprehensive though, I hope they haven't ****ed around with the book at all. The novel wasn't dramatic at all, but that's how the trailer looks

k go?

Came in here to post Public Enemies

I'm unsure about The Road, I read the book and didn't like it all, still not sure whether the film will be worth watching. Not a big fan of Mortensen either really which doesn't help.

I like Robert Downey Jr but think Guy Ritchie is awful, and watching the trailer just puts me off even more. Makes it look like he's taken his 'lovable' cockney 'characters', given them posh accents and put them in Victorian London.

Even in terms of trailers, and what trailers should do, it looks fantastic. WtWTA and Burn After Reading as well have fantastic trailers

Looking forward to this, too. Also, here's one I believe you were fond of which I'm still desperately awaiting!

Definitely. The upsetting part is, these are just promos (I think). They're still looking for money to finance the thing. So, that sucks.

what sucks about the road is in the trailer it looks as if they're trying to explain what happened to make the post-apocalyptic earth

even though one of my favorite parts of the book is you never really know

Along a similar vein, Iron Sky could be fabulous. I lol'd at the Reichstag on the moon

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KEueJnsu80

The Road's an awesome book. With the trailer, I'm hoping against hope that to promote the film they've just picked all the most dramatic scenes. There's no prolonged tension or perilous scenes in the novel, no fields on fire or getting chased by 30+ guys over long distances. So hopefully the trailer is actually misrepresentative of what the film's like.

I agree, though, that scenes of extreme weather and WWIII and nuclear holocaust and global warming should be kept well away from this film. What's powerful about the book is the inevitability of what has happened, and, to a certain extent, that it doesn't matter how the world ended up like it did, because it makes no difference to the characters involved.

Attaching it to climate change might give the movie pertinence, but it strips the story of its relevance to any other potential catastrophe. Where the book was about surviving the end of the world and everything it implies, by adding such scenes it makes the film about nothing more than global warming

Those 3 first mentioned look really good.

I'll add Inglorious Basterds to that list:

Beaten for Public Enemies and Inglorious Bastards.

Senor Ron, I think the way Guy Ritchie is making Sherlock, it'll be more of a comedy-action movie, kind of a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang thing, and I <3 RDJr. so it'll be pretty good I reckon.

I wish someone would make a straight Sherlock Holmes film, though. There's been dozens, but they've all had some twist

I would love that, Pat. I've read all of the stories and it would be awesome if they actually would get it right.

I saw a poster at the theater a few days ago for Inglorious Bastards that just had a picture of the butt of a rifle with the inscription "A Bastard's Work Is Never Done" and I may have pee'd, just a little tiny bit.

Basterds got a mixed response at Cannes. Apparently too long and too much dialogue and QT I think is going to do some final editing/cutting before its cinema release.

Martin Scorsese doing another horror film excites me. Trailer looks okay but I have faith that he will make it a winner.
