Nocturnal Emissions of the Blackline Elite (black metal thread)

The old black metal thread has been lost somewhere in the depths of this treacherous hell, so here is a new one.

I GUESS TO GET THE BALL ROLLING

I've really been digging the Kallathon/Volahn split Disequilibrium of the Ecliptic Plane lately. The Volahn side is predictably amazing ("Tecpan" in particular is mind-blowing), but I really think the Kallathon side (to a greater extent the artist) is underrated. There is something so salt-of-the-earth and nature-esque about his playing without sounding like your typical black metal band. And at the same time, it sounds so much bigger than that; transcendental and cosmic. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard it yet.

I received my copy of The Black Twilight Circle compilation Tliltic Tlaopyauak on Friday, and it's beautiful. I got the 2xCD version, and it sounds amazing, way better than any rip I've heard of it online. The packaging is a fantastic mix of lovably cheesy and DIY awesomeness. It goes without saying that the music is fantastic. Definitely a recommended purchase.

Not going to let this thread die. Been listening to a lot the BTC stuff lately, as well as an assortment of other raw, but melodic black metal like Em Dath Rir, Cirrhus, Grand Mood, etc...

From the depths of unsullied innocence, Blut Aus Nord find the sweet token of creativity that most seem to miss or forget, floating sullenly in a void of wasted invention, imagination and a deep pool of potential just waiting to be plucked by those who are willing to look. You've heard it all before and don't care to hear it again, the mindless ranting and raving of how old and stale a movement can become, what once shook bone and bent earth soon becomes a dreary and mindless meandering. At a time when it all seems lost, where the good, the great and the mighty are now far and few in between, the inertia is broken as Blut Aus Nord grants the engrossing and full spectrum of colour. Not for a long while has such an album immediately taken hold of me, such alluring orchestrations hypnotising me from start to finish. Quite honestly an album that leaves one in awe at its majesty, 777 Cosmosophy is impressive to say the least, and speaks wonders of where the band is to head next. Let yourself go and delve into the psychedelic wonders of this record, sink into its atmospheres and be ensnared by its odd divination.

I've only ever listened to their latest trilogy, but I really liked it. I always see such praise for them, but for whatever reason I've never checked out anything else. Despite that, I know they are one of the more original bands around.

Jammed the new arcturus finally. Pretty solid stuff, though I prefer something like A Forest of Stars for that victorian/carnival vibe (the two are pretty different of course)

I could never get into Arcturus. I really like Garm and I really like Vortex, I just don't like them in that project for whatever reason. Not a big fan of the whole, carnival black metal schtick though, so that has a lot to do with it probably.

The Borknagar is sweet. I'm not a big fan of viking metal. But the clean vocals in this are awesome. Still, haven't listened to the new Arcturus though. Secrets of the Moon's latest was awesome too. Psychonaut 4 also released an excellent album last year

check this out. pretty solid, if derivative epic/pagan black metal. it's only like 10 minutes so pretty short even for an ep

If their first album is any indication, it should be good.
