Fast + somewhat big = defensive line

Yeup. I was stronger/faster than everyone else on the d-line, but I was still considered "too small" to play the next level. Besides, I like lacrosse more and they're all not-that-strong in college and crap.

So anyway, about two weeks ago at my cousins grad party, I met Mr. Illinois (cause you know, I was in Illinois). He's Mr. Illinois in power-lifting, and the dude is one crazy motherf*cker. He's going for the national record in body-weight bench rep-out. He said he beat it in his gym, but it doesn't count till the competition...I forget what he said it was though.

Think I'm going to start this routine this week. If someone could look it over and give me any tips or previous experiences with something like this it would be appreciated.

All that in one day? By the time you get to weighted dips you'll be dead tired.

Edit - Oh, only one set per move. I don't think that's enough for big gains. That's only 3 sets of squats per week, or 6 if you include warm-ups (which I usually don't). That's nothing.

This isn't necessarily true, either. Your diet has to be spot-on with lots of quality protein, and it doesn't take into consideration the FACT that some workout sessions you will feel like being more intense than others. A lot of factors can influence that, like not getting enough sleep, etc.

My legs workout for tomorrow (all loads in lbs)

Cleans 3x6 @ 105+
Back squat 3x6 @ 225+
Front squat 3x6 @ 185+

Then, 3 rounds for time (better than 12 minutes) of:
30 body squats + 25
15 24" box jumps + 25
12 lunges + 25
50 situps

Finish with more situps

I sort of want to add more stuff.

Back squat is when the bar is on your traps and front squat is when you make a platform with your arms and rest the bar on your shoulders. The pictures here explain it decently: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.php?Name=Front+Barbell+Squat

For I was being stupid and leaned too much forward and the bar slipped forward on the right side and when I came up (last rep thankfully) I messed up my back. I have had problems with this spot in general. I think all I did was minorly exacerbate a problem that had been fading.

Yeah, so, I thought this week was my download week, but I was wrong.

Vertimax (platform with bands on it...gets good tension) split-squat jump - 3x6
Hanging pull (there's a rope hanging down from a pull-up bar. You lay flat on your back on the ground, grab the rope, and pull yourself up) - 3x12 (body weight, added a 45 plate for the last set)
Dumb-bell bent over row - 3x12 w/ 85 lb dumb-bells

All three of those exercises were super-setted, so there was no rest inbetween. It was a cycle basically. Then we did:

40 yard sprints w/ 115 lb sled - 3 sprints
Incline push-ups (failure w/ 45 lb plate) 3-sets (53, 26, 20)
Dumb-bell incline parallel press - 3x8 (85 lb dumb-bells)

Again, all of those were super-setted, but we were allowed 15 seconds rest between the push-ups and the incline press. Then:

40 yard sprints w/ 115 lb sled - 3 sprints
Barbell shoulder shrug - 3x12 (245 lbs, 250 lbs, 260 lbs)
Side bridge w/ 35 lbs - 3 x 30 seconds each side

We got all of that done in under 45 minutes. Not a fun day.

Jesus. Are you playing D1 lax? I actually was talking to my friend who plays at my school (a D3 school) and he said there's a lot of parity between the divisions in lax. It's because it's less popular as a sport than football and others obviously and the pool teams draw from is fairly elite at all levels.

Yeah, I'm playing D1, and you're friend is right. In lacrosse, about half of the D3 teams could play with the D1 teams and compete. Only reason why they don't (obviously) is because of school size.

You guys should subscribe to Milo magazine. Its the best strength journal out there for serious athletes.

Football is killing me right now. The heat is just awful and the humidity makes the air soo thick.

It's mid-July, so I assume you guys are doing 2-a-days in just helmets right now? If yes, then I feel bad for you man; those were the worst practices. You can't "hit" each other so all you do is drills aka run.

Don't complain. My mom never let me play football because of the danger so all I did in high school was tennis and soccer. Also I was sorta dumb because my best sport before puberty was definitely basketball but when I didn't grow in middle school like everyone else I quit. Then I became the tallest person in my class and could have been nasty if I maintained my game but I did no such thing. Still, football. If I had been been trained I could be a legit WR.

Danger? Wow, football is actually a safe sport if you play it properly. I played since 4th grade, and the worse I got was a concussion my senior year.

High school football was probably one of the best experiences I'll ever have in my life. I wouldn't change any of it at all...well, maybe a few missed tackles but meh.

Yeah my mom was kind of sceptical when I started rugby, mostly because I was the biggest guy on our team and Id be the one people on the other team would be going after. But I can hold my own so it was all good.

Im so psyched for football though. Should be sick. Couldnt play last year because I had just broken my arm and got surgery on it in august(this was grade 10 football) so this year is my first year. Im really psyched

My trainer gave us an "active rest day". All we did today was light stretching and crap, since the last two days had been complete hell.

Hey, Rugby guys, you might find this funny:

Haha ya my friend sent me that one. It's definitely true. I was playing in a game and I was trapped under a pile and I figured whatever, I'm stuck and I'm not blocking play at all, when all of a sudden this kid winds up and kicks me straight on the head. It stung and bit and then I said this sucks aww dang. So I waited for people to clear off and I felt my head expecting to feel a bump. Instead there was a hole. He had kicked a 2 inch gash in my scalp. He apologized after I came back to the field with like 8 staples in my head. But ya that kind of stuff happens. People lose their heads and do idiot stuff too often.

She shudders at the thought of it all the time. My dad in college (same college too). He thinks I'm too skinny and thus prone to injury but otherwise he's cool with it.
