Guitar Pro RSE

So I love writing music on Guitar Pro, but cannot for the life of me get it to sound good. It's really a problem with the RSE. To me, everything sounds sort of crummy. Mostly, I am looking for a way to make the guitars sound better. Anyone have any suggestions of which RSE patches to use to make the instruments (guitar, pecussion, bass) sound more realisting.

For drums, I typically use the Rock kit. The problem with the drums is that the cymbals are way too loud and the kick doesn't have any kick to it. The only way I've found around this is to change the dynamics, note-by-note. I usually have the cymbals around mp and the bass and snare at fff or ff.

The bass, I think, is the easiest instrument. I find that the fingered bass sounds way better than the picked bass, and it helps to turn up the low end on the EQ, so that it better cuts through the mix.

What are you using for the guitars?

I found something about changing the presets and using your own on the Internet, and I set up my own. It sounds alright, but it could definately be better, I think. All you have to do is find the files, edit them using notepad, and save them as your own.

I have my software installed in C:\Program Files\Guitar Pro 5, so I'm going to use that to explain. It may differ to other people, depending on where they installed the program.

If you go into C:\Program Files\Guitar Pro 5\rse\presets and make your own folder. I used "Others" as mine, and I'll continue to use that in my expanation. Again, it may differ to other people, depending on where they installed the program.

Now, if you use the program, you can find an acoustic guitar/guitar effect/drum/etc... that will come close to what your looking for. Now, go back to C:\Program Files\Guitar Pro 5\rse\presets and click on the folder in there that matches what type of sound you're looking for. Then, in that folder, find the sound that was close to what you wanted, and copy/paste it into the C:\Program Files\Guitar Pro 5\rse\presets\Others folder.

Then, right click the new file, and open it up using notepad. Now you can see how the sound is built. But it's too tricky for even me to completely decipher, so I just sort of played around until something worked. Now, save your new file, open up Guitar Pro and test it out. If it doesn't work, mess around a bit more. That's what I had to do. However, if you figure out exactly how it works, post it up here or somewhere else in the threads so that others can use it.
