Face Transplant

http://www.itv.com/news/britain_7b648888f133c7dfe5ffaccaf9194cb4.html

Well doctors hope to get the go ahead for this surgery. And theres no doubt its an amazing break through in medicine and science I suppose in general. However this does bring forth some ethical questions. However with this advancement, is this a step too far.

Any Comments ??

No. She got disfigured in a war. She should be given a second chance at a normal life

Didn't all the doctors get angry at that french woman with the partial transplant because she started smoking?

I don't think that any medical breakthrough is "a step too far" if it's going to improve people's lives.

I can't think of a single ethical problem with this.

I'm a little uncomfortable with the idea that people may want to have their face completely changed simply because they're not happy with how they look naturally, but someone who is disfigured in an accident has a right to be given such treatment

It's be kind of weird if a friend or relative donates their face after they die, then you see the patient who received it.

...Face/Off...

I thought they swapped faces in that movie? Then again, I was watching it in the exam room while waiting for my orthopedic doctor and wasn't paying attention.

That's what the face transplant is, right? Minus one of them getting a face back.
