Anyone heard of the site www.dontdatehimgirl.com? Basically, it's a user input site similar to ratemyprofessors.com, only it's a hub for embittered ex girlfriends to spread rumor and slander (and every once in a while some truth) about their former dates...And for everyone to read it. So, guys, don't piss off your girlfriend, particularly if/when you break up with her, because otherwise you might see that you "gave her an STD" or something of the sort.

Should such sites even be protected under the law? I'm all for free speech, but the site basically gives an unregulated venue for slander against individuals.

If it would violate libel laws in a newspaper it should be illegal online. In fact, I'd be surprised if it isn't.

Bleh, it seems more like a hub for women to talk about how paranoid they are when they're on their period.

It would be hard to regulate. I don't think the site itself would be illegal, just the individuals committing slander. Prosecuting them could take way more effort than the justice dept. would be willing to make.

American libel laws only cover material losses, as far as I know.

at first I thought this thread was about lesbianism.

As for the actual topic, I'll just say that monogamous relationships are a vehicle to turn men into rabid consumers (especially of blood diamonds) and women into slaves, and as such I'm firmly opposed to anything except for random ****ing between strangers or acquintances.

Because the owner is printing something unfounded as fact and it is defamatory towards the victim.

As long as they don't post unreasonable confidential information (not personal) such as the poor boy's address, full name, picture etc., I don't see the problem in getting the anger out publicly.

If they didn't print last names it would still be fun and not illegal I don't think. It's only slander if there is no question who is being talked about. There are millions of Daves out there. So in that case, it would still be fun, at least to some people, but not illegal.
