media players/movie players, help

Here's my situation. I use winamp for pretty much any music playing, and some movies like .avi and stuff. I prefer for its ease of use and how the playlist system works.

I also have realplayer to play those special .ram files and stuff. It's aight I suppose.
But it won't play .mov files. I don't understand why it even associates itself with .mov files in the first place, but it says it needs to download new software and it never works.
So I downloaded quicktime (again), and although it can play .mov, it reminded me of how much I hate quicktime. It's slow, it always opens files in a new quicktime player (even though I turned that off in the options.. wtf!), and it's got some plugin embedded in firefox, which doesn't seem to work. Screw this, I'm uninstalling it.

So is there a way to get realplayer (or even winamp, that'd pwn) to play .mov files? Or is there another player out there that can play both realplayer and quicktime files? I don't want quicktime at all.

for video laying, the best programme, that can pretty much play anything is VLC (VideoLAN Client).

Sweet, thanks guys. I'll try that winamp plugin first, that'd be best. If for some reason it doesn't work I guess I'll just go with quicktime alternative.

I just don't want more than 2 media players, that's all!
Also, I've never tried realplayer alternative. What's better about that compared to realplayer?

Media Player Classic with the aforementioned Quicktime Alternative is my personal favourite. It's more versatile than VLC and the UI is miles better imo

Media Player Classic is different from WMP, right? Because I think WMP sucks and I got rid of most of it...

sure - it allows an audio timeshift, it allows you to dub a separate audio file into your video (useful when you're in the middle of encoding a movie), it of course plays everything VLC plays. The only advantage VLC has is better options for video aspect ratio when you get a file which is encoded in the wrong format

yes, its appearance is based on an old old WMP that used to come with Windows 95, but it is a powerful little beast

Hmm

Powerful you say? And you can get plugins for it to play real and qt movies?

What about VLC, does that play .mov? I installed that winamp plugin and it wasn't able to play .mov...

Hmm. There's no, err, alternative to that? I very much dislike quicktime and I've never tried quicktime alternative. So those are the only players that will play .mov?
