Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB model

I just wanna make sure before I go ahead and buy one of these.......

Is it possible to install a Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB humbucker into a stratocaster copy?

And also...does the JB stand for Jeff Beck?

Thanks

Well, it depends on the routing underneath the scratchplate. You will need enough space to actually mount the humbucker, so make sure the actual wood isn't routed just for 3 single coils.

Loosen your strings off, unscreww the guard, and take a peek (im presuming you want it in the bridge).

Also; I have no idea what it's named after sorry :-/

If the guitar has the right size routing (hole) for the pickup underneath the scratchplate, then yes.

And it is indeed named after Beck.

really? i never knew it was named after beck, i thought it was just 2 random letters.... anyway, yeah, if yu dont alredy have a humbucker in the bridge (or wherever you want to put it) then you either have to route out the pickguard (easy) or get a new one.

hopefuly your guitar is routed for a humbucker in the bridge (or wherever you want to put it), or you'll have to route it out (slightly harder)

my strat is routed HSH, and i believe that american's from the 90's have swimming pool routes, but those are real strats, not coppies.

just out of curiosity, what brand?

It's a silvertone.

I've already checked underneath the pickguard and there is plenty of room underneath there for a humbucker. Only thing is, my pickguard just has those standard stratocaster spaces for pickups (like in your picture I think), do I need to do anything to that or will the humbucker fit on top of that?

You'll have to cut the scratchplate to fit the humbucker in. Depending upon how professional you want it to look you could -
a. take it down to a local music store and get them to do it properly
b. go at it with a knife/file

Looking dodgy is only going to affect the resale value, but if you feel it may be better in the hands of experinced people than go ahead

On the other hand, you can pick up an HSS pickguard pretty cheap, saving you a bit of time and the chance of screwing up or it looking tacky.
