Repetitive songs that are good because they are repetitive

Another good excuse to start a thread so I can squabble my way through. But I'm always interested in the responses of these kinds of threads.

We all know songs that have alot of repetition...sometimes that's a bad thing, but sometimes that's a good thing. Let's hear about the good examples!

My 3 picks:

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - The Mercy Seat

Seeing this song live has made me appreciate it much more, since I kind of left it unnoticed before. It's just so menacing. Everytime I want to sing the lyrics louder and louder until I'm out of air. It's just an incredible powerful rush, and probably the best example of good repetitiveness that I can think of.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Will You Smile Again

This song is kinda the reason I started another lame duck squabbly thread. The intro is just intense. Instead of thinking "when is this phokkin part gonna end?" I think.."C'mon! Again! And Again! And Again! Again Damnit! One More!" each time I hear it. All that while uncontrollably moving my body as if
I'm having a seizure.

Ani DiFranco - Imagine That

The song is basically one lil' acoustic riff over and over. But it's one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard. It's such an amazing, naked song, with beautiful lyrics and witty vocals. This is her best song by far, and one of the best songs I could ever hear. Never get sick of it...it gives me goosebumps.

Damnit, I suck for making another one of these threads, but I just love reading descriptions of music and how people experience listening to a particular song or album. I pull my hair out watching all these last.fm lists, to be perfectly honest. It doesn't give me any boost to check something out.

Ween - You F****d Up

This is a parody track and it just consists of heavy guitar riffs and Dean shouting out obscene cuss words. I think the song is effective because it is simply hilarious while everything is repeated twice.

Daft Punk - Around the World

I don't know how many times they say "Around the world" in this track but they say it at least 100 times. It is a dance song and the effective electronic riff is catchy and dance-able for seven minutes.

Talking Heads - Born Under Punches

The same bass riff is repeated throughout the whole song, along with various backing vocals and electronic noises. I love the song so much because it is smooth, somewhat funky and just pumps me up.

I agree with you on the Mercy Seat. God that song is great.

I'm also a sucker for Shellac - Prayer to God when Albini starts screaming "kill him, ****ing kill him' over and over.

Broken Social Scene - Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl as well. Quite effective.

Massive Attack - Angel

Plenty of Bob Dylan songs are repetitive in terms of music but good. Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands is a good example.

Um, every song I listen to...

but seriously,

Do Make Say Think - The Landlord Is Dead
Do Make Say Think - Soul and Onward

Both songs have the same guitar line over and over. The Landlord Is Dead gets louder towards the end while Soul and Onward stays mostly the same but adds on some singing.

Air - Alpha Beta Gaga

This one jumped out at me right away. That same catchy whistling theme is repeated over and over, yes the song is so infectious that you want even more.

Pretty much every song on The Beta Band's Three EPs, with the exception of Monolith. Only one - I think it's "It's Over" (EDIT: it's "Push It Out") - gets the slightest bit boring through being repetitive, and the end of the song makes up for that.

Tender, by Blur, too.

I was going to mention every Can song pre 1976 and most Fall songs ever released, but I didn't.

alot of good examples in here (notably slint and radiohead)

alot of sunn 0))) songs are great 'cause they repeat riffs and allow you to be "engulfed" by the music

and meshuggah's i (i know there are alot of changes) but the song is based on repetitive riffs and is in my opinion a masterpiece

Daft Punk- Human After All
"We are human after all
Flesh uncovered after all"
That repeats the entire duration of the song. Its meant to be ironic in a sence the Daft Punk are always photographed as robots and the vocals are altered by computers. The song reminds the listener that they are human beyond the music.

Pixies- Tony's Theme
Melvins- Teet
Booker T and the MGs- Green Onions

Actually, most funk/soul songs are pretty repetitive, but it's a good thing definitely.

Daft Punk - Emotion. Pretty much just "Emotion" sung over and over again. And over and over and over. Human After All is such an average album.

Neil Young- T-Bone

Maybe the repetitiveness doesn't make it good, but it makes it hilarious.

It's basically 9 minutes of 3 chords and a few little solos and Neil singing in a really weird tone. The thing that makes it repetitive is the lyrics.
