Trumpet Time!!
Hello there "Other Instruments" forrum!!
As you can guess from my name, i am from Belfast and i play bass. I used to play the trumpet about 3 years ago, and got to Grade 4 (i only JUST passed it though, and i rekon he gave me mercy marks! )Anyhoo, im thinking of taking it up again for my love of ska music, and jazz an' all that caper. I know trumpets are pretty expensive, so can anyone tell me some second hand trumpet brands i should look out for, and what to avoid? Cheers Josh |

Good Brands:
Bach, B&S, Conn, Getzen, Giardinelli Bad Brands: Yamaha and not well known brands. Stick with the name brands |

Bach Stradavarius( or however you spell it) is the only trumpet you will likely ever need.

I would say Giardinelli or Palatino. Good brands, nice look, cheap-ish prices. Yep, stick to Italian name brands, lol.

Hey guys thanks for the replies!
It turns out theres a guy in my class whos looking to sell a trumpet, and its a second hand Bach. Hes asking £200 for it, which sounds reasonable, so ill take a look at it and see what condition its in etc. |

Bach makes beginner and intermediate models, don't they?

yes. The beginer is worth buying for a student, but I was rathar disappointed with the intermediant. I would go straight for the Stradivarius, but thats just me.

Bach is great, Shillke is great, Stomppe, Stomvee, Try to play around, just get a mouthpiece first off, and then as in stores if you can play their horns, get a feel for them.

I'm a bassist going for trumpet due to love of ska too....
anyway, I'm looking on wwbw.com (Woodwinds & Brasswinds) and they've got really good stuff on there (it's all got like 5-year warranties and they check them out before they ever send them off and all that). There's BandNow brand trumpets for like $130. That's not a well-known brand, but I work in a music store and the other guys that work there (I'm semi-new there, so I ask for advice from the more experienced guys) say that they play much better than an instrument of that price range and should cost a lot more. The reviews of that trumpet say that it's really good. The only complaints made were that the one guy's a dolt who didn't wipe down his instrument and thereby wore the finish off with all his nasty palm-sweat, and another guy yanked the the the little pinky ring thing off. I'm either going to get that or wait til we get a shipment of trumpets and see how cheap I can swing one. Last edited by maco; 02-11-2006 at 10:47 PM. |
