question for trumpet players

i have a tendancy of puffing my cheeks when i get into the upper range. i can keep them in at first, but if i go higher than a high G it feels like i cant push enough air through, so im forced to puff my cheeks out. Do any of you guys have the same problem? or know of any good solution to fixing this? it almost sounds more nasaly when i keep my cheeks in while going higher.
thanks

which G, like the fifth note of a C maj? or the second/third octave....im sorry ive never experienced this, if you feel like you cant put enough air through, its because you have your cheeks puffed out, the cheeks hold the air and you get a gross airy sound....try playing louder and think of the note when you play it

G, above the bar. I can play with good tone (not airy) with my cheeks puffed a little when i go higher, but i know that will probably create problems later. It's when i keep my cheeks in that i get the airy sound.

I don't have this problem, but you probably need to tighten your muscles. Work on you embochure and do long tones. Also, I would ask someone else, like a band teache and/or private instructor, if you can. Are you having a hard time hitting the g? Is that mostly the extent of your range? My best guess though is that you need to improve your embochure. Long tones and other exercises will help. Try practicing exercises from something like Arban's. A private instructor would also probably help, if you don't have one.
