I've always wondered what a dulcimer was... They show up a lot in the Wheel of Time series of books, (it's fantasy). Just FYI.

its a zither of some sort, anyway!

Definately not an autoharp, different concept. I do agree its something like a zither though.
Just FYI, the way it works is you press the keys and the little hammer things hit down and kinda keep hitting the strings for a short while. This is the instrument used in the beginning of "Leech" by Incubus on A Crow Left of the Murder. |

I'd say some form of a dulcimer. Probably eastern european judging by the design and metal work.
