Discography:
2002 Alert Aware Involve
2003 Split (w/ Whatever It Takes)
2004 Rhetoric of Reason

Description:
I think a number of you will like this band if you give them a chance. Basically, The Code is a straightforward punk band, whose lyrics are full of political messages and views. The vocals may take some getting used to for those of you who don't listen to punk, but they aren't too bad.Almost all of their songs are fast-paced and energetic, and are easy to sing along with. They're music is quite catchy as well.

I strongly suggest that everyone check these guys out. I'm not much of a fan of punk music, but these guys are one of a few punk bands that I genuinely enjoy. Alert Aware Involve is one of the better punk albums I have had the pleasure of listening to.

1998 Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka
2000 Black Seeds of Vengeance
2002 In Their Darkened Shrines
2005 Annihilation of the Wicked

Description:
More branching this week as I introduce one of the definitive Death Metal bands around, Nile. The thing that really characterizes Nile's sound and differentiates them from other DM bands is their addition of Egyptian music influences. So differentiating, in fact, that only one other artist is really that similar.

As in all DM, the drumming is technical, and driven, the guitars are fast and loud, and the vocals are low growls. Above all it's very fast too. All of their albums are consistently good, but their most popular is In Their Darkened Shrines. The stuff on the links provided is all off the newest album Annihilation of the Wicked though, I believe. There isn't a huge change in sound between the albums though.

This is one of the few Death Metal bands I not only tolerate but enjoy, so I hope you guys all like them too.

I liked the Code more than I expected to. I probably wont pursue further listening though. Straight punk is not my thing.

Nile was pretty sweet, actually. I'm gunna steal some from you later, Vince. Lashed To The Slave Stick is tight.

Brian, this is called "Expanding Your Tastes". Stop doing bands that are pop-punk or near pop-punk. Why not try some hardcore (Set It Straight doesn't count ) or some real screamo/emo or something.

Heh, I'm trying to ease the pop-punkers into new music. I don't want to start them out on something that is incredibly different then what most of the people in here listen to.

/lame excuse

Next week I'll probably do some emo. I realize these bands haven't been too far out of the realm of pop-punk.

The whole point is to try something new. Not just to dismiss the band without at least having a listen.

Nile are a very good band, but then I already like Carnival of Coal, Opeth and a couple of other more extreme metal bands. Still, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Nile: very fast, technical and aggressive.
