My Chemical Romance: Wolverhampton Civic Hall, 1/11/05

Not sure which forum MCR would go in, so I'm falling back on The Pit.

Well now that was a gig.

The fun started on the Civic Centre car park; it's the general consensus amongst my friends that my parking is hilarious and this time was no exception. After trying for ten minutes to squeeze my car into a ridiculously small space (where, even if I did manage to park it without clipping anything, I'd never be able to get out the car,) whilst at the same time dodging all the poor souls trying to get past me, I gave up and by some miracle managed to reverse-park into a space on the next level.

Then after the usual wait for the doors, we found ourselves watching the supports. I don't remember who the first band were, the second was Every Time I Die, who in my opinion drove home the point that if you don't know the band, you need a bit more music and a bit less WWHHOOOAARRGGGHHH.

When MCR came on the Civic Hall practically breathed euphoria. People love this band. They opened with Thank You For The Venom, I think, and it got progressively better from there. I was exhausted after 4 songs, how the 5 guys on the stage kept going for an hour and a bit escaped me completely. It wasn't until Helena that it really started to heat up, and if I remember rightly at one point Gerard Way was trying to get the crowd to make a bigger circle pit than the one achieved for At The Drive-In. Me and Jenn suddenly found ourselves in the middle of it and... we got a bit battered. (I'm not used to circle pits.) Only a bit, mind. Right at the end, he announced that they only had 2 songs left, and one of them was brand new... (which was pretty good, by the way,) fair enough, but they hadn't played Prison or I'm Not Okay! So which would they play?

They finished with You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison. The last band I saw at the Civic were Lostprophets, who didn't do an encore. Not so MCR. It only took 1 round of chanting and stamping from the crowd to get them all back out there for 2 more songs and they ended the show with I'm Not Okay. That's the way to do it.

Even getting of the car park was fun, since loads of people were playing their MCR CDs really loud and engaging in "The Horn Chorus." A great night. I'll see them again. Definately.

Ever think about what a chemical romance is?
That's right, they're substance abusers. I'm guessing glue and oily rags.

It sucked, they didnt do a proper sound check, Alkaline trio didnt put effort , and there was lots of little kids . There was like a 14 year old girl walking around in her bra! LIttle hoe bags.

Sorry but the only gigs I go to purely for the supports are local gigs where my mate's band are supporting them. Or my band is supporting them. One of the two.

Thats just silly. Often, when the bands are quite mainstream, the support bands are far better. Like when Bullet For My Valentine supported FFAF, and Goldfinger suppported Reel Big Fish. I'd go to see Motorhead again entirely for the fact that Class of Zero are supporting (dunno if they actually are this year) Just go for the music!

Word. I don't normally listen to Green Day alot, but there was a band that just kept on going for about 2 hours straight. I don't know how they did it, but yeah, My Chemical Romance sucked I thought.
