Wolfmother
May or may not have heard of this Australian band (Sydney). Their debut album comes out today (Monday), they have not made any impact in America yet, but I believe in the UK they are known. They are certainly known in Australia, surprisingly having a place in the top 10 with their latest single "Mind's Eye".
They are often described as Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath for a modern day audience which I believe to be fairly accurate. I realise how dangerous this comparison is, but they have a force and an energy that allows them to pull it off without falling into a dreadful parody of the rock bands of the last century. The vocalists' voice is pretty impressive, alot of people compare to Robert Plant, I wouldn't agree there but it's definately good, possibly in a different way. You can check them out on their website, with a tiny snippet of "Mind's Eye", or you might be able to download that track or the more rocking "Woman". I know the video of "Mind's Eye" is on their site. Anyway, decent Sydney band that I shall be purchasing the album of. Thoughts? |

Wolfmother are one of the best semi-mainstream bands out there today, from what i've heard so far. And they do it without the gimmicks and s'hit too. Just staright up Rock. I beleive they were a Led Zeppelin cover band before.

Yeh, there album is out now. You can get it on torrentspy.com which is a shame. I think I'll buy it. It's had awesome reviews, one exclaiming it being the best rock album from Australia in a long while. I can't wait to hear it.

They're really very derivative. They have their moments, but overall they're just a step up from a tribute band.
That song Minds Eye is definitely better than their previous stuff, but it's also a big ol' ripoff of The Real Thing by Russell Morris. Oh and do they do that Apple Tree song? Because I really hate that song. |

Yea, that one can get really whiney. But I dunno, I dig what they do generally, just their whole sound.

I like their song "Woman", it's actually the only one of theirs I've heard, and it's pretty rad.

I am an expert (don't lie to yourself, man) on these types of bands, and Wolfmother get a big ol WOOOO from me.
they're a very cool band. Sure, they're not original, but they're badarse and they're actually pretty fresh. They're a damm tight light act (saw 'em twice in 2 days earlier this month) and they have wicked hair. Also, Minds Eye sounds like Jethro Tull, and Tull are awesome, so that's a good thing. |

Triple J's been flogging them all week, and I'm seriously impressed. 'Collossal' is really cool and very...large? They're probably getting sick of comparisons, but they really do sound like Led Zeppelin, particularly that 'White Unicorn' song, which I really like. I'm buying the album, pronto.

They're alright, good musicians but I can't stand the singer.
They were pretty good on Live At The Wireless the other night though. But yeah, I just can't take the vocals. |

I bought wolfmothers ep and album...both fantastic. It's good to see something listenable in Australian music, which is at an all time low in my opinion.
Apple tree sounds a helluva lot like My Doorbell by the white stripes. |
